ByGrace3
Looking to get some help for my sister for next year. I told her I would do some research for her to narrow it down a little :tongue_smilie: Background: She has 2 girls (going into first and sixth grade next year) are homeschooled this year (starting homeschooling the older in the middle of last year). They have thus far used Abeka. The girls hate it, but my sister liked the simplicity (and the fact that she trusts the curriculum bc the private school her older dd went to used it). However, she is finally willing and ready to break away and do some choosing for next year. She is highly organized, wants an academically challenging curriculum (I don't see her as the hands on type however) her ydd is super "energenic" and the worksheet base of Abeka is killing her. (She is constantly asking to come do school at our house) ;) Definitely on a budget. Thoughts? Anything that can be combined for these two grades? TOG? SOTW? Apologia? MFW? Here are some of my thoughts for her but would love some thoughts, thanks! Math: Saxon Math Mammoth History: SOTW Tapestry of Grace (core then add math, English, science) Sonlight (Core then add math, English and science) My Father’s World (Core then add math and English) English: ABeka Phonics (ydd) First Language Lessons WWE All About Spelling Shurley English Rod and Staff Science: Apologia Elemental Science Lyrical Life science Literature: MFW, Sonlight and TOG include this Beautiful Feet Progeny Press Use any book lists Handwriting: (ydd) Handwriting without Tears Reason for Handwriting
lauracolumbus
I can only share what we've used. My dd7 loved FLL 1/2, and but we're switching for 3 and 4 to R&S and MCT. For math, I have her doing Math Mammoth, and it's going well and it's very affordable. To combine, we've used SOTW with great success here. I don't have any experience w/TOG or the others.
