Guest
Does anyone know a source for wooden math manipulatives like the ones needed for McRuffy Math? How about for the science supplies needed? I am trying to rid our home of plastic toys as the noise is not compatiable with hearing aids. Thank you! BatmansWife
I might not be much help, but I see you haven't gotten a reply yet. I would just suggest looking at eBay, Rainbow Resource, Amazon, etc. I would search for wood (which can still make some noise), or foam. There are a lot of manipulatives that are made of foam now (pattern blocks, tangrams). Some of McRuffy's manipulatives are foam, like the large colored cubes. TheAutumnOak
I am not sure what the manipulatives look like that you need, but here are two choices... http://www.amazon.com/Tree-Blocks-Math-Kit-pieces/dp/B000WEG9NG We have a bunch of wood building sticks from a store called Palumba...We use that for math manipulatives... http://www.palumba.com/product/building_sticks/147/?catID=
moonlight
i'm not sure if you are looking for specific math manipulatives, but we bought wooden acorns from casey's wood online and they are great... also, the flat marble type things can be used as manipulatives/jewels... Mom2Tess&Gus
In my previous life (prior to HS) I was a teacher for the deaf/ hard of hearing, so I am particularly sensitive to your issue. We used all kids of neat manipulatives including: Mini erasers (buy in bulk from Oriental Trading Co) Rubbery dinosaurs/bears/sea animals/fruits (Lakeshore Learning) Foam blocks (Target) Vinyl cling shapes (use on small dry erase boards/windows/even walls) Small food items (cereal, Nerds candies, Mini-M&Ms...) Beads (wooden/plastic) Plastic ants (this was a favorite!) AL Abcus...though if the kids don't learn to use it calmly/respectfully, the sliding sound of the beads did bother some of my students. Teaching_Three
I'm not sure if these would work for you, but I purchased these wooden pattern blocks from my fathers world. we use them as manipulatives. There are 250 pieces, different shapes and colors. My children are really enjoying them. They are the third or fourth item down on the page... http://www.mfwbooks.com/products/M50/30/0/0/
laundrycrisis
I also buy from Casey's Wood Products - I bought a bag of I think 200 1" wooden cubes. They are working great !!
