Kfamily
I'm looking for an elementary textbook to use with my younger dd next year who is very interested in astronomy. I'm looking for choices other than Apologia. Is there anything I'm forgetting about? Thanks!
SnMomof7
Media Angels has one...Creation Astronomy? Can't think of the precise name right now.
fhjmom
We are using Answers in Genesis "God's Design for Heaven and Earth" this year. We are still finishing up Our Planet Earth but will do Our Universe next.
Kfamily
Thanks, I'm looking at both of these.
Kfamily
I noticed Oak Meadow covers this in 4th grade. Would it be worth it to buy the 4th grade science only? If I like the entire plan, I may use more of it than the astronomy.
Just Robyn
For fourth grade OM, English, Science, and Social Studies are all together in the syllabus rather than in separate books, so for a $200 syllabus I personally would be looking at the whole plan to make sure I liked it, especially since astronomy is just one trimester. One more option to look at is Mr. Q. Or, in lieu of a textbook, A Child's Introduction to the Night Sky. cschnee
This isn't a text either, but the Astronomy by Itellego at Currclick, looks great!
Kfamily
Thanks Crstarlette! I didn't realize that the Science with OM included the English, etc. I really like A Child's Introduction to the Night Sky. Since we won't be spending the whole year on astronomy anyway this might be just right. I have other misc. books that I could add as well as a Constellations coloring book, a teacher resouce type book on the solar system, etc. I may just have to piece this together... Poke Salad Annie
Corraleno posted her ideas for covering astronomy without a boxed program. Here is a link for one free online text. Jean in Wisc has some very nice ideas here. There is another thread in which Corraleno posted more ideas for astronomy without buying a program, but I can't find it yet. Anyway, if you want to put together your own astronomy study, this might get your started.
