Mama2Three
Hi there! Has anyone used or seen the Aesop's Fables Books about Reading, Writing, and Thinking? Royal Fireworks Press is also the publisher of the esteemed MCT grammar series. The books look interesting, but there is no online sample that I could find. RFP says that the books are for 1st through 4th grades, but I would like to hear what someone else thinks about the level of difficulty. I'm thinking of combining my DD (working well above grade in LA) and my DS -- each would have his/her own book but work on the same lesson. We haven't done formal grammar yet and I am concerned that MCT Island might be too much too soon. Thoughts?

Satori
We have the first book and will start in this month. I like the looks of it and already ordered the next books in the series. It looks like something my daughter will love, so we'll use it before we move into MCT.
Aoife
We have books 1 and 2 so far and are saving it for 1st and 2nd grade. We'll move into MCT from there. I really like the look of the books and the information in them. I think it will be a great bridge before MCT. I am not sure I would use it for younger then 1st grade though as it does involve writing which may not be quite up to speed by then for the average kiddo. Mama2Three
Thanks for the positive comments and the link to sample pages. Anyone not like it?
Melissa B
I didn't like them. I didn't like the translations used for the Aesop's fables. And the books felt unorganized and seemed to be primarily busy work.
yslek
I just saw these recently. My friend is using them with her daughter (same age as my D). I really liked what I saw. I was very tempted to get them for D, but we're doing K12 instead, so I refrained. :001_smile:
nansk
We have all 4 books and we use the first one, although not regularly. I agree some of it is busy work, but sometimes just doing it on paper helps retention. This is one of the few workbooks my dd is willing to do. For a child that likes writing/drawing/colouring, these are good. I don't think they are anything like the MCT books though. The language of the fables themselves is far better in Milo Winter's version. The RFWP books have much simplified language. They would be right for your 6yo, but not, imo, for your 8 yo. You may try, though. They are fairly inexpensive. HTH.
