chessrascal
Hello, Teaching a Level C Student Writing Intensive course from IEW. Anyone have any good reinforcement games? We have a large co-op of 28 and would like to have some girls against guy teams, etc. Possibly race to the board to come up with banned words - that type of thing. Any ideas out there? Thank you! angela in ohio
The favorite one I used was to have three different cups with slips of paper: one had a subject, one a verb, and one a dress-up. They had to draw one from each cup and come up with a sentence combining them. My students would just try to come up wtih the funniest/ oddest sentences for each other's entertainment, but you could award a winner. I would also write a sentence on the board and then have each student draw a slip of paper with dress-ups written on them and come up with a sentence. You can also see who can create a sentence with the most banned words. They really enjoy that!
chessrascal
Hello Angela! Thank you so much! Those are both great suggestions!! Last week was our first week, so we're actually only up to who/which and starting on "banned words". I will definitely be using your ideas. If you have anymore, I'd love to hear them. Thanks again! angela in ohio
Another banned word game would be to intentionally use banned words throughout your teaching and see who can "catch" the most and write them down. I played it with dress-ups, but it would work for banned words, too, I think.
