vonfirmath
My friend is looking for good options for an Algebra sequence. She is NOT math-savvy so is not good at helping her daughter, who is also NOT math savvy. They think they want something with DVDs and fully worked out problems. But something the daughter could mostly do on her own. (DD is 15 years old and pretty much handling her own education already.) She has an older brother and dad she can ask questions of, but neither is available all the time to actually teach the subject. Would Teaching Textbooks be good for this? Life of fred? ETA: She has used ACE math with both of her older children, and with both utterly failed to learn the material and finally scrambled to get it in community college. So she wants to change curriculum with this child.
Ida
It sounds like Teaching Textbooks would be a good match for your needs. You probably already know about the rigor controversy surrounding that curriculum, but it sounds like it fits your requirements and plenty of people are perfectly happy with it. It is designed to be used independently by the student.
4wildberrys
I recommend either Math U See or Ace School of Tomorrow algebra with DVDs. Either program is great for non-mathy types.
Julie in MN
One more to look at: Math Relief Truly a teacher gifted at a particular thing: Teaching algebra. It includes DVDs, worksheets with the problems already written out for the student to get started, and worksheets with the problems already solved so you can see the entire problem worked out. There's a sample video on his website. Julie
