Long Range Greek Plans?

My kids have done Greek Code Cracker, and are now working through Elementary Greek 1. Our goal is to move from Koine to Attic. Would the Hive recommend working through the entire EG series before making that transition? Or would it make sense to switch over sooner? If we did so, what program would make the most sense to do next? Galore Park? Athanaze? Something else?

It depends on age and maturity; technically, you can start Greek right away with Athenaze with no previous instruction at all since it starts at the beginning, but for kids your age it will probably be too much and too technical, even if you take it slowly.

 

I use(d) parts of Athenaze with my kids over the years, but it's suitable for middle school (maybe even upper middle school) and beyond, unless you have some kind of help aside or you mix it with something else. So I'm in favor of taking it very slowly in addition to EG or whatever else you think it's better for the kids their age, not to overwhelm yourself and the kids, and possibly completely putting it off for a few years if taking it in small digestible chunks doesn't work - I just replied since it seemed to me that you were asking for long-term suggestions, and I really find Athenaze to be (one of) the best (things) available on the market. :)

I don't know anything about EG, but here's a brief description of the Galore Park programme. It starts from the beginning and would form a one-year course for a late elementary/middle school pupil. It's straightforward and easy for a non-specialist to teach. It unfortunately doesn't lead anywhere at present - GP has talked for years now about bringing out a Greek Prep programme, but it keeps getting pushed to the back of the priority list.

Well my wild-shot-in-the-dark plan is Greek Alphabetarion, Classical Greek for Beginners (Galore Park) and then A Reading Course in Homeric Greek (which seems to be high-school level). But my son just turned 8, and will be starting this year, so take my plans with a barrel of salt. I think Athenaze would be good too, but I already own the Homeric Greek course.

My dd11 did Code Cracker and EG1, and will work her way through EG2 and EG3 until she gains the maturity and study habits to take Greek online at Lukeion.org, where Mr. Barr uses Athenaze.
