Blue Hen
How do you schedule Introductory Logic, doing one lesson a week? I have the DVD, student book, answer book and tests It doesn't quite work out to one lesson a week cause sometimes there is a lesson without an exercise and sometimes there is one lesson with two exercises. I had DS spend one day outlining the lesson and then two days on an exericse. Sometimes we would add in a review day too. Carole

tampamommy
We are doing Introductory Logic in the following way: 4x/week Day 1 - watch dvd lesson (about 30 min.) Day 2 - read corresponding textbook section (about 30 min. or less) Day 3 - re-watch dvd lesson (about 30 min.) Day 4 - do worksheet exercises for corresponding section (about 30-60 min.) Sometimes, a few sections are covered in one lecture. So if there are 3 or 4 exercises to complete that correspond to one lecture, we may take a week and 1/2 or even 2 weeks to cover the above. This is the schedule my 8th and 6th grader follow, and they're doing well with it. I have them work on the exercises together which develops lots of good skills. We tend to emphasize logical thinking in our daily conversations on many topics, so this is something they seem to take naturally to. And they enjoy it, too. But this would also be a very do-able schedule for an 8th grader or up who had not really been exposed to logic. Oh, one of the most helpful items is a chart at the back of the test booklet. (p. 37) It lists all the dvd sessions with corresponding text page numbers and exercises. It also indicates where the tests fit in. I reference the chart often. Hope this helps! southcarolinamom
We're using two books by the Bluedorn Brothers - The Thinking Toolbox and The Fallacy Detective. One lesson a day, plus questions. We LOVE it! He gets 1/2 credit for Introduction to Logic this year.
Mary in GA
In my experience Introductory Logic/ Intermediate Logic do not neatly lend themselves to one lesson per week. I do not try to plan out anything like this anymore. We just set rough target dates and work through the curriculum. Flexibility, after many years, has become my word around here! LillianinAL
This is helpful to me. I think I lean to saying we do Logic 3X / week and see when we finish the book. Thanks, Lillian
