~*~Michelle~*~
We are thinking of getting Rosetta Stone Spanish (all 5 levels) but several people have said they don't think it's necessarily appropriate for my dd's age (7). Can you give me some alternate programs?
StephanieZ
Elementary Spanish on Discovery streaming is very good. FWIW, my 7 yo does well w/ RS but she has also always had regular contact w/ a spanish tutor, so that helps.
jplain
Here's a short list of popular options for younger elementary level kids: Salsa, which is free! Here's a link to a thread with info on how to access it: link. La Clase Divertida Puertas Abiertas Elementary Spanish, covers Grades 1/2 - 5/6, and then Educación Española covers Grades 7/8 It is available on Cosmeo (1 month free trial available, then $9.95/mo), DE streaming (no free trial, $149/yr), or DE streaming Plus (no free trial, $209/yr). One disadvantage of going with Cosmeo is that the Teacher's Guide with student pages is not available, though you can purchase those materials separately: link. For anyone with an older child, Educación Española is not available on Cosmeo, and (inexplicably) only the first year of the 7/8 lessons is available on DE streaming and DE streaming Plus. And obviously all 3 of these resources include a lot more than foreign language instruction! Many WTM posters use videos and video segments from these resources for other subjects, such as science and history. Search the archives using the names of these programs as search terms, and you'll find lots of reviews written by WTM posters.
