Signet/Penguin has an annual essay writing contest. This past school year's selection was War of the Worlds. Next year's choice is Wilkie Collin's classic, The Moonstone. Essay topics are forthcoming, but you can look at this past year's contest here. This is something that you might be able to incorporate in your lesson plans.
