funschooler5
...what would you buy? I'm thinking of books we reserved at our library over and over again as we've gone through SOTW 2 (Ten Kings and the Worlds They Ruled, Knights by Philip Steele, Ten Queens: Portraits of Women of Power, etc.) and I'd like to be prepared when we start SOTW 3 in a few weeks. Or are there any favorites you'd just love to own? Edited May 27, 2010 by funschooler5 Added some words :)
Parrothead
Strangely enough our favorite book for that time period was The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. I ended up buying it in Boston at one of those tourist shops.

I just love to start out owning a few books the kids like, and will read again. :)
mcconnellboys
Well, not necessarily from SOTW, but the Ten Kings and Ten Queens you mentioned will be used during this period, too. Also, I found a Genevieve Foster book that covers a lot of the weekly topics in SOTW. It's called 1620: Year of the Pilgrims. It's not as lengthy as some of her other works. Here's a link to show you what it looks like: http://www.librarything.com/work/1717673 Her book George Washington's World would also be useful to cover multiple topics during the year. I found this little book at a dollar store one time and it has multiple short bios for several time periods, including early modern: http://www.ecampus.com/bk_detail.asp?isbn=0806636122 It's called Kings and Queens for God, so is Christian in its perspective. You'd probably also get a lot of use out of Famous Men of Modern Times. Here's the newer Memoria Press version of that: http://www.memoriapress.com/descriptions/famous-men-of-modern.html First Facts About American Heroes is a compendium I have and use. http://www.thriftbooks.com/viewDetails.aspx?ISBN=1567111653&frmlnk=y Remember the Ladies, Cheryl Harness (her bios are all good, too) is a compendium covering more women.http://www.harpercollinschildrens.com/Kids/BookDetail.aspx?isbn13=9780064438698
