Johnny McBeck song lyrics...

Recommended Posts

My dh sings a song called Johnny McBeck. It goes something like this....

Johnny McBeck how could you be so mean

I told you, you'd be sorry for inventing that machine

All the neighbors cats and dogs will nevermore be seen

They've all been ground to sausages with Johnny McBecks machine!

It has a bunch of different verses but dh can not remember them. Google didn't turn up anything.

Anyone in the Hive know the full song??

My dad used to sing this to me when I was little, but he called it "Johnny Rebeck". Here's a version, though it is different than the one my dad used to sing to me. The version I remember had a first line like this:

Once there was a Dutchman, his name was Johnny Rebeck

He was a dealer in sausages, sourkraut and speck.

One day he invented a sausage machine, how could he be so mean?

Now all the cats and dogs will never more be seen!

(Then it continues with the verses of the linked song)

After more googling:

Since the fellow as Dutch, this version makes more sense:

There was a Dutch-man,

his name was John-nie Ver-beck.

He was a dealer in sausages and sauerkraut and spec.

He makes the finest sausages that ever you did see.

But one day he invented a wonderful sausage machine.

Isn't great what one can find when one is supposed to be doing grammar?

My mom sang this song to me when I was little. These are the only words I recall:

Chorus:

Johnny McBeck, oh Johnny McBeck, how could you be so mean?

I told you you'd be sorry if you invented that machine

Now all the neighbors cats and dogs will nevermore be seen

They've all been ground to sausages by Johnny McBeck's machine

One night the darn thing busted, it simply wouldn't go

So Johnny McBeck, he climbed inside to see what made it so

His wife, she had a nightmare, went walking in her sleep

She gave the crank a heck of a yank and Johnny McBeck was meat!
