Cheri in MN
I'm a lurker, not a big poster, but am stumped and looking for ideas. Next year's 9th grade curriculum includes the Dante exam for World Religion, World History and Geography. I was hoping to find a curriculum that contained more the Cultural/Human Geography that also included World History. This would help put the World Religion Dante in context. (We used Notgrass 2 years ago and really enjoyed it). I'm not a fan of BJU and my 9th grader is not a lover of wordy texts. Any ideas? Lori D.
We found this series to be helpful and painless for comparative religions: Milliken publisher's World's Great Religions series, a set of reproducible books with text/information, end of chapter questions, and a final test. Information covers historical overview, key people and ideas, worship and ceremonies, festivals and holidays, sacred writings, holy places, sects, etc. Five book series: "Inside Hinduism" "Inside Islam" "Inside Judaism" "Inside Buddhism" "Inside Christianity" See table of contents and sample pages at: http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?sid=1269492584-2072173&subject=13&category=3677 Also check out these free study guides or fact sheets for the CLEP Dantes tests: http://www.123collegedegree.com/booklistdsst.html http://www.free-clep-prep.com/clep-exams.html http://www.getcollegecredit.com/resources.html#factsheets Edited March 25, 2010 by Lori D. added info
Cheri in MN
What a great find! The book I used last time I taught the DSST for World Religions at a coop was a bit "texty" for the lower level of the 7th-10th grade class. I'll still take suggestions for Cultural Geography/World History that would help tie it all in one nice package.
Kareni
Not a textbook but as a supplement, I'd recommend the books Material World: A Global Family Portrait by Peter Menzel. as well as others by the same author -- Hungry Planet: What the World Eats and Women in the Material World Regards, Kareni

Just all-around revealing.
Cheri in MN
These do look like good supplements ... thanks for the ideas. I'll keep searching for the Human/Cultural Geog option!
