5KidzRUs
Those of you that use Spielvogel's Western Civ. Text - how do you use it? As a spine, reference or ?????? Do any of you use it as a stand alone? Are there any curriculum guides out there for it besides VP and TOG? Thanks!
Kareni
This book is frequently mentioned on the high school board. You may wish to go to that board to search through old posts or ask your question. Regards, Kareni
Dooley
I have an older WC and my daughter in college has the newer version. Hers is THE book used in her class. I teach a co-op history class, and I use mine as part of my research into people and events that we discuss in class. I have a lot of other resources and it makes it more interesting to look at different views, etc. SO....you can do it either way!
FaithManor
Thankfully, it was not the only "spine" but one of the main ones. We found it to be very dry. We also felt that when it came to dealing with the issue of the rise of communism, the author was not objective but rather almost pro-communism. Spielvogel was Eastern European. The information was generally very solid. But, the read was rather boring. I am thankful that by the time DS needs to earn his World History credit, SWB will have her series completed. I intend on using the four volumes as our "spine" and assigning reading, summaries, and timelines to DS. Her writing style is far superior and more engaging.
