CLE's Basics of Diagramming vs. Mary Daly's First Whole Book of Diagrams?

I can't speak to the other book, but we have the CLE book. It is a reference book. It is strictly for showing examples of how to diagram. It does not teach you what the parts of the sentences actually are.

For example:

"Appositive Adjective:

Appositive adjectives are diagrammed under the noun they modify, connected by a horizontal dotted line on which the conjunction is written."

A sentence is listed with the diagramming underneath.

I see it as a book to look back to when you might have forgotten what to do, more than a teaching book.

I hope this helps!

P.S. If you are comfortable with the program teaching the parts of speech and just want to add diagramming practice, I think you should look at CLE's Diagramming Practice Sheets. I have my dd doing them because her grammar did not include much this year. The book has 76 pages of diagramming arranged by grade level; therefore, increasing in difficulty. It lists sections from 2nd grade (just subject and verb) to 8th grade (much more complex sentences). This, too, is an example book with practice sentences.

Oh. my. goodness. This is precisely what I need!!! My dd is struggling with diagramming because we switched curriculum and it's a gap. I was wondering how to find extra practice and this looks perfect!! I'm so glad I opened this thread! Thank you!!!!!

I do wish that the CLE website would make these resources easier to find. Why not list it with the LA materials? I looked everywhere on their site until I just put in "diagramming" into the search box. But if I didn't know this resource even existed, then I would have just looked in the LA materials listing.

You are very welcome. I've been helped so much by what I have read on this board, it's nice to know I can help someone else. I can't believe how affordable their stuff is either, can you?
