LauraGB
Ok. I think I've decided I need the Roku. But, for those of you who have it, can you comment about the other channels that come with it? We don't really want to go back to all the junk programming we had with cable. Are these other channels "family friendly"? Also, before I make my final decision, one thing we are missing a great deal is the ability to pause and record programming. Is there a different box out there that does everything the Roku does, but also will allow us to record and pause local programming? Does the Tivo do both (stream Netflix and Amazon as well as record unpaid programming) effectively? TIA!
Wendi
The other channels on Roku have to be added by you. We set our Roku up with a password, and no other channels can be added without it. (So ds13 can't mess around with it.) I may add Pandora sometime, but for now we only have Netflix. Wendi

Unfortunately, I think the development has stopped on the DTVPal DVR we have, so there is no chance of Roku being added at this point. BikeBookBread
Can you internet surf using a Roku? For example, can you watch off of Hulu? I know it was rumored this was coming, but haven't heard anything more. I browsed the Roku channels on the Roku website and it doesn't list it as an option....just thought I'd ask anyway! AnotherE
No Hulu on Roku. :( I only use the Mediafly and Pandora channels. I love, love Mediafly. I can program my favorite podcasts on my Mediafly account, and then use my tv as a radio. It also plays video podcasts, but the quality isn't that great with my broadband connection (15/5). It is nice to have Pandora going while I'm cleaning the house. Our Roku has paid for itself many times over. The only negative effect has been our family's new-found love of tv. We had been without cable for many years, and having on-demand programming has definitely increased our tv viewing habits. But Hulu can take some of the blame, too. Frontier Mom
I just set mine up today. I only added Netflix and Pandora. I run mine through a receiver so Pandora is awesome. Down side, my dc's have watched an episode of the BBC series Robin Hood, which we love. Now, they are watching Space Jam. Good side, it's a rainy, cold day so being new isn't too bad for the Roku. Like a new toy.
