LauraGB
Ugh! I'm trying to read my way through Emma and maybe a mini series would help - but, alas, my male family members are monopolizing the television with football. :glare:
BikeBookBread
Just watched it (episode 1 -- 2 hours). Even DH sat through it -- protesting all the way, but asking a TON of questions about characters. He must have been somewhat engaged. (As I was rubbing his feet the whole time I had clicker rights tonight :001_smile:). Pretty good. It's been a long time since I've read Emma. I think I'll pick it up and read it again to see how closely this one is following. I know I like it better than the Emma that was on A&E about 10 years ago with Kate Beckinsdale, and MUCH MUCH better than the Gwyneth Paltrow version (she was too pouty). I do like the casting, though: Knightly is perfect although does not look old enough to be 16 years older. Emma is really good; however, I kept noticing that she made the same grimace faces that Alicia Silverstone made in Clueless. Even DH commented on that. I don't think that Frank Church is dashing or duplicitous enough. Miss Bates is perfectly irritatingly talkative. Good cast all around. ETA: the streaming version is now available if you want to watch it...
