Peek a Boo Posted December 18, 2009 Share Posted December 18, 2009 Well, most babies won't get sick... but if they DO get sick, it will potentially be much worse than with an older child. Viruses that cause common ailments in older children and adults cause severe illness in infants. well sure. but this is where it will pretty much fall on each family's genetic predisposition to getting sick in the first place. Even my 1st-- a 33weeker preemie-- would have been fine being born at home, and did well coming home after 11 days in NICU [for observation-- they were waiting for him to gain more weight before releasing him] and out and about after that. Their immune systems may not be fully developed, but this is where those external defenses that were talked about in a previous thread come into play.
