Talk to me about thermometers...

Recommended Posts

I need to find a thermometer for science, one that can be immersed, so digital is out. All we have here is digital. :glare: Sooo... with all the different ones on the market, I would like to buy one that can be multi-purpose, without knowing of course what else we would use if for in the future. I don't know anything about thermometers, except that the old ones containing mercury are hard to find. Can you share what you know about them, and maybe suggest a type of thermometer, so when I'm shopping around I don't appear as clueless as I really am? Thanks in advance!

I don't know what range of temps you need but here are a few ideas.

You might try a pool store. They have a variety of water proof thermometers, some of the ones for hot tubs are fairly small.

Garden stores have outdoor ones for weather.

Cooking departments would have high range candy thermometers which can be dipped into boiling liquids.
