LadyAberlin
Are there any tricks to memorizing the 12's fact family? Thanks
nmoira
I didn't require memorization because 12's are easy to figure out, and are used often enough that they'll become automatic eventually. We did 12's skip counting and frequently talk about dozens of this or that. Twelve times a number is ten times that number plus two times that number. Moni
I tell them it's a 10's and a 2's Other than that, I cheat an only go to 10x10  Cheater-cheater, that is I :seeya:
LadyAberlin
Well I personally would only go to 10, but this is a girl I tutor and they are having her go to 12. Personally I'm a math person and I don't have the 12's memorized. My mom only had me go through 10's. I multiply 12's like I would any 2 digit number. Karen in CO
For the 12s, my dd has been either doing the 10's plus the 2's or an 11 plus the number. I figure she will either pick them up soon, or do them as a two-digit number.
IsabelC
Yep, there's no particular reason to go to 12. You only need from 2 to 9 and you can work everything else out. I think it traditionally went to 12 so that people could calculate shillings and pence easily, although some people liked to do up to 20x20.
