  1. It is way to long of a story to get into. But long story short, my SIL(husband's sister), and I are not speaking. We have not spoken now in about 6 weeks. Prior to this, we would talk quite a bit. My SIL was upset with me about something, and to this day, honestly I do not know what it is. She called me into a room full of people, pointed at me, and started screaming that I was a backstabber, and some other choice words. All this in front of my husbands family, including her kids, my kids, and other kids that were there as well. My MIL was also present. My DH told her some "nice" things in referencing to shut up, again I will not repeat. At any rate, my MIL of course took my SIL side in this, and found nothing wrong as to the way she handled this little outburst. So, I do not want a relationship with her. In reality this has been a long time coming. I think the issue is that she has some jealousy issues with the relationship I had with my MIL prior to all of this, and the closeness I had shared with another SIL. My FIL, goes to my SIL every Friday for dinner(My DH's parents are divorced). I get a message on my Facebook from my 13 yo niece, that when "Grandpa goes over your house on Sunday, can you give him back my book that you borrowed" Now, I do not have my FIL over on a regular basis. So I know that my FIL must have spoken about me to my SIL, and telling her he was coming here this Sunday.(And I am sure there was a lot of talk behind my back). I want to address this to my FIL, but I do not know how. I do not feel comfortable with him talking, or even bringing up my name to my SIL when he is at her house. Should I even say anything? This is his daughter, so I know in my heart things were said about me. I know I cannot be there to know if they are talking about me every week. Nothing I can do about that. Whatever high school stuff. But now that I have been informed by my niece that they know he is coming here, I want to mention this. Should I or shouldn't I say something? One more thing to add. My 13 yo niece overheard the whole yelling match by her mother, and of course, agreed with her. While on FB, my niece was a friend of mine on FB. She basically told me off, and was extremely disrespectful to me, and my MIL and SIL defended her, in that she had a "right" to speak her mind. Ummm, no I don't think so. If one of my kids ever disrespected any adult anywhere like that, they would have been severely punished, and been made to apologize. So DH says this is not about the kids. Now l love my two nieces(13 yo and 11 yo), but I am very bitter over my 13 yo attitude. When she asked me to give my FIL her book, it was just curt and to the point. Now, I cannot find her book. I am going to have to give my FIL like $10.00 so she can buy another one. My DH says I should send her a PM back and let her know I lost it, and I will send my FIL with the money. But I really do not want any communication with any of them. I also think that they will assume I am lying and purposely not giving the book back to be spiteful. What to do about all of this? If you have read this far, thanks!!!:001_smile:
  2. Thank you, I think I am going to order this.
  3. I have seen a lot of talk about this program for Chemistry grades 4-8. I recently purchased Thaymes and Cosmos Chemistry set. Would this book be a good compliment to this, or would it be overkill do you think? Advice appreciated, thanks
  4. I ordered a T+K Chem set-C2000 for my 11 yo. It arrived yesterday. I like the looks of it, although for the money, I would have thought it came with everything. In looking at the Teacher Guide, it shows how to do all the experiments. But I was hoping it would have come with some kind of lab sheets? I wanted her to write down the name of the exp., what she thinks might happen, the outcome, etc... Has anyone just printed out their own lab sheets to go with this? Any other things you have done alongside this program? Thank you:001_smile:
  5. LOVED the Thames and Kosmos!! Thanks for the tip on that!!:D
  6. I really would love to purchase Science Excursions, but it is new, and I do not feel comfortable dishing out that kind of money on a program nobody has used yet. So we have WP Rock Around the Earth. This will not take us a school year. So since we are doing Earth Science, my daughter wants to do Chemistry. (6th grade"ish"). Not looking for fill in the blank. Nor just a bunch of reading. We would like some color in the program, not expensive(not over $60.00), get's the job done, has hands on experiments with simple household items, and really, really looking for something that teaches a student how to do a lab experiment(subject, materials used, hypothesis, conclusion etc....), and not "babyish". I see alot of people using Prentice Hall, do they have Chemistry? Where do you buy this? I have only seen the textbook. Where do you get the lab sheets and/or workbook and Teacher Manual?? Does not have to be Christian :-) Thank you
  7. I was planning on English from the Roots up this year. We really do not want to "learn" Latin, we were really interested in the vocabulary part, to help with higher level reading, and vocabulary building.(she really wants to start reading the High School classics, which she can read, but the vocabulary is hard) . Hmmm, now I have to rethink.....
  8. Did you try looking in "my documents" to make sure it didn't download? Or any of your file folders? Sorry I can't be of more help.
  9. My Curriculum plan for my 11 year old. Can I get some feedback please? Missing anything? LA: EG 6, IEW American History theme unit, Spelling WO G, EFTRU 1 Math: BJU History: HO Level 2, Early Modern Times Lit: Progeny Press Guides Science: Science Excursions Logic: Mind Benders Art: Artistic Pursuits Band at PS, Dance, Cheerleading, Girl Scouts Thanks!:D
  10. IEW has the Elegant Essay. I would continue with that. http://www.excellenceinwriting.com/index.php?q=TEE
  11. Wow, all of these look good. Now I am not sure which one to choose. I like English from the Roots up, as it looks hands on. But it doesn't really say how long both courses should take, and it ends after Volume 2. Memoria press only has one book. And Vocabulary Vine does too. I have to look into the Critical Thinking one as well. Should root word study only be done for a few years, then move on to something else? If so, like what? That might help me make my decision a little easier. Thank you so much!:001_smile:
  12. I love Time Travelers, and I also found Pandia Press, History Odyssey. I like this one. I can start in Modern History, level 2. It is perfect. And I already own all the books. :D
  13. Honestly, I don't "get" VP at all. For this age group, it looks like VP offers only the ancients??? And I don't "get" how VP History works? Truthquest, I am not sure I looked into to that. I will look at it. Thanks:D:D
  14. I emailed them at Rainbow as well, and I never heard anything either. So, Science Excursion it is going to be!:D
  15. I am thinking of putting together my own. We want to spend at LEAST Grades 5-6-7 studying American History. Possibly Grade 9 as a Geography course. I "only" want US History. I do not need a program like WP or Sonlight. I want a program that gives a booklist, a timeline, suggestions for hands on programs, map work, writing suggestions. etc. Right now, I have found NOTHING I like. Not BF, or AAH, or Biblioplan. Or WP, Sonlight. Not SOTW either. Or BJU's or Abeka's. I was thinking I should just use a KF Encyclopedia for a spine and do my own thing. This is for my daughter who is in 5th grade(public schooled 5th). Anything? Maybe something I haven't heard of?
  16. Okay. So I better stick with the IEW Themed Units then. Thanks:001_smile:
  17. This one is definitely on my wish list, Science Excursion. I am REALLY liking this! As soon as I get in some money that is my next order:D
  18. Does Writing Trails use the same method as IEW? I am looking at the US History one. We did the IEW one a few years ago in co-op.
  19. I saw this curriculum. I really like the looks of it, and the price is about the same as well. I do not want to take a chance on waiting for this Colors program. Thanks a bunch:D
  20. I thought I saw them stating this would be released like 4 years ago. It is for the 10-12 yo age range before starting Rainbow Science. I was on their website, and it says it should have been released, at the latest, in the Spring of 2009? Now, they are saying you can pre-order at a discount($135.00 for the whole kit) if you do not have to use it by September 1st. I don't know. Am I wrong in thinking this was supposed to be released like three or four years ago? I would love to use this, but do not want to pre-order and wait until who knows.
  21. I want to use a Latin root word vocab. program for my 6th grader. I have seen VFCR, and Vocabulary Vine anyone like those?. Any other suggestions? Thank you.
