  1. I need a little help. I once found this awesome list of page matchups for US History using those two books. Now I can not find it for the life of me. Does anyone know what I am talking about?
  2. Those are methods for evaluating cultures. They are all the same things just in different order. GRAPES- Geography, Religion, Acheivements, Politics, Economics, and Social Structure PERSIA- Political, Economic, Religion, Social, Intellectual/Arts, and Area/Geography INSPECT- Ideas, Natural/Geographic, Social, Political, Economic, Cultural, and Technological/ Scientific
  3. This year we are studying the Ancients by culture using a version of GRAPES, PERSIAN, and INSPECT. We will use K12 Human Odyssey as a spine daily and create a timeline while studying ancient civilizations in depth. We will study a different attribute of the cultures using the above attributes weekly and require a written piece and outlining twice a week. At the conclusion of our study of the culture, she will be required to create a presentation based on the culture or some aspect she found interesting during our study. She can present it however she wants but must design the project completely on her own using guide questions I provide plus four of her own with progress check ins weekly. The only project I will dictate is "Create Your Own Civilization". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Will it be enough to last a year though? We usually do a page daily or just test if she feels like she doesn't need more reinforcement. I know about the supplement book. I am beginning to second guess my purchase now.
  5. We are using AG this year for grammar and we plan to use the 3-year plan. For us, that would mean she would be done with Season 1 early in our year. What do I do for the 30 odd weeks left in the year?
  6. For earth science, we are using the BSA merit badge requirements for Geology, Astronomy, Oceanography, and Meteorology. The requirements are very in depth and we will supplement it with Carson Dellosa workbooks. There is no much work involved that we are calling it an honors course.
  7. I am in planning mode right now and someone gifted us with a copy of R&S English 6. From the looks of it, it looks like it could do the job. I have seen nothing but glowing reviews but is it really a grammar and writing curriculum in one?
  8. My child is ethically opposed to dissection. She feels that animals are friends and supports cruelty free killings for food only or if it places a human life in imminent danger. She hates zoos and circuses because animals should roam free in their natural habitats. She even changed her career goals once she found out they were done in vet school. So you can probably guess how dissection talks for the coming year go. I've looked into paper dissection but I find them lacking and too much work on my behalf. I do not want to force her to go against her personal beliefs but Dissections are a have to in my book. What are my other options? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. She wants to get done early so that she can pursue her interest in the arts before she has to buckle down and adult. She wants to travel the world and see things before being bogged down again by school and work. Her plan is to get her JD/PhD and open a law and engineering firm but still be young enough for a career change if she got bored. She has sat in on my lectures and things since I am currently in school and she passed my online Stats class (Mommy didn't lol). That fueled her to consider going to college early. I had to remind her about papers but apparently she can do those as well with a little help from me. My fear is she is not mature enough to handle it and her ADHD. Mature as in she is still a giggly fairly new 11 year old and if it's a day off of her meds there is chaos! I don't want to set her up for failure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I just reviewed the Engineering Early College option here and it's definitely not what she wants either. At first we were excited because she wants to be come an engineer but also wants to dance, art, and do musical theatre. This program would not provide the stimulation that she craves. It is much too linear for my little wild child. She is not worried about typical high school things. I wish there were more affordable options for us. Her goal is to graduate college and high school simultaneously and early. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I was wondering about that. We have the option of Early College at the local CC but I don't know if that would be the optimal solution for us. I was also wondering about paying. Early College is free but I think I might have to enroll in public school to be eligible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Has anyone used these their studies? If so, how did you integrate them? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. We are starting with tutoring next week. We did assessments with her this evening and her reading was not that far off the mark. She seems to have issues with retaining information. She can't remember the months or days of the week. I don't know if it's a lack of consistency or if something else is going on there. I forgot to mention both of the kids have ADHD. My kid is medicated but her mom is still on the fence about her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. It says Move Beyond the Page. I'm not sure if that appeals to me. She hates the program because it is dry. I like it because there is nothing there to distract but I wish it was bit more fun for her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. We are nearing the end of Junior Analytical Grammar but I do not know what to use next. Any suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I never heard that before. I will have to look into it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. That is the lesson that keep reteaching itself this year. I came in so confidently this year based on last year's information. I started the beginning of the year, digging for weaknesses. I found them and allowed the weaknesses to cripple our experience. I always knew she had asynchronous development but never took stock of what that meant for a teacher. I always took the fact that she understood some upper level math and could explain some processes to mean there would never be a struggle with basics. Coming into homeschooling I thought this would be a breeze. That is really what landed me in this spot. I don't know why I didn't realize it earlier when I got done freaking out for the day. Thank you ladies for helping me see this! I guess I need to get back to my planning book and actually make a plan and stick with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Grammar is the one thing we aren't truly behind on. She hates diagramming but gets it done quickly. English from the Roots Up has been a bit more consistent as well. She loves deciphering words and actually wants to do it. I oscillate between the three because BJU presents it rather simply and she gets it immediately that day but the next day it's like she has never seen it. Saxon is a bit more thorough but is really dry. Khan Academy is a bit new for us because of the assessment. I'm using it as a daily review. She is moving through it and being refreshed on topics that were covered last year and new stuff I didn't realize she didn't know. I've learned that although she had an A in math last year, they did not complete the book. So things like fractions were never covered. She also does not know much about geography. It was not a priority at her old school outside of the SOTW maps. I'm also struggling with the fact she has to test this year. So I've been trying to monitor the state standards against my plans. Historically, she has tested extremely well in math, history, and science. She was above level in reading and bible as well. Now, I'm worried. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I have gathered that about Pinterest and TpT. I'm overwhelmed by all the projects that I've seen and pinned that look like great ideas in theory. I often catch myself trying to find something day of and fall even more behind my schedule trying to start something that will not get done and really isn't that important. Or I fall down rabbit trails because new pops up and looks even better. That's why science never gets done and I'm trying to follow the new method in WTM that I honestly don't understand. 20. Her decoding and fluency are fine. That is the plus side to it. She reads nonfiction and mythology very well and can tell me about them. I know her reading comprehension suffers from her SPD. She cannot make the picture in her head but we are slowly progressing there. She can manage as long as the text is there to answer questions. She thinks much faster than she speaks and when she tries to verbalized what she is think sometimes she gets stuck. We have put all of that to the side for months. When I do try and teach her something she usually gets it the first time and we move along. If left to do independent work, she has to be constant redirected. She does have ADHD and is being treated for it. I do as well. So it's to be expected that she wanders. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Honestly, no. All the schools around me are crap. The ones I would consider are all audition or testing mandatory for the next year. Or they cost much more than we comfortably can budget for. I know we can homeschool. It's what she and I both want. I know it's the best option for her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. She struggles putting words together verbally and on paper. Her reading comprehension suffers a bit too with fiction. She just hates reading. I've picked the books myself all catered to her interest. I've let her choose books herself and nothing consistent comes about unless I sit on top of her and scream read constantly. Writing falls right in line with reading. We are still struggling to do so narratives verbally and on paper. No, we could never get through all of those. I know she has in the past in traditional school, I'm just not able to focus that long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. That is what I have been doing. I print out daily to do list sometimes and just let her move through things but I need to figure out how to actually teach her. What I basically ask of her is to figure it out. I don't think she has retained much and the math assessment She took has her at a 4th grade level when she was nearly 6 at the beginning of summer. 24. We are using: CAP Writing and Rhetoric Book 3 Analytical Grammar Jr English from the Roots Up BJU 5/ Saxon 5/ Khan Academy SOTW 3 and lots of supplements Mapping the World by Heart Science is a hodgepodge of things Random chapter books Everything is supplemented by things found on Pinterest and TPT. It all looks orderly but we have barely touched anything. We have changed curriculums multiple times. I am really trying to use WTM but I don't understand how to do certain things. 25. Loads has happened since the beginning of the year. We had to make an emergency move. We were in a car accident. We also lost my grandfather last month. To top it all, I'm in school as well. It's like we can never find the groove. We fight constantly about reading and writing. It makes more many long days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
