  1. I just checked it out. I think it looks harmless. I am conservative and restrict a lot of things. I would have to read into a book. I think maybe this "magic" may be just as imaginative play and not witchery. If i were you I would look into it more.

I like that it has parental controls.

I do think virtual world play is beneficial as our kids gain crucial computer skills while using their imagination and playing.

Again, that is just me. If you are not comfortable with it, draw your lines. :D

  2. Oke - not familiar with the name, I'd have said "oak" like the tree

Herriot - Harry-it (only heard this said by people in my family who have some of his books and that's how they say it)

    Ditto this

But Guacamole is most definately wa-ca-mole (my kids call it wa-caca-mole because of what it resembles). However, I think it is acceptable either way.

  3. This will sound harsh but it really isn't meant to be. An 11 yr old training her own horse, imo is fine, depending on the kid. Mine broke 2 yr olds when they were just a bit older. However, if her horse is "spoiled rotten" you've got a problem. Either she wasn't ready to train her own horse and she's spoiled it, or she's letting the horse get away with crap and she's spoiled it. That's not educated. Either way, I wouldn't tolerate a spoiled horse around an adult, much less an 11 yr old.

Okay...maybe you are misinterpreting spoiled rotten as ill behaved. Spirit is very well mannered and respectful. She is just well loved and very loving in return. As long as she minds her manners, she is rewarded with treats and play. My daughter is educated and so are we and people have said many times how strong her horse-skills are. So, saying our actions are not educated is a big jump from one phrase that was not mean the way it was taken.

    ***sorry to hijack the post***

  4. I think that is awesome. We had a stallion that was the sweetest most gentle guy (as long as no mare in heat was near). I believe the owners are the best source to talk to about their horses. I do believe that it is best to stay away until you know the horses, and NEVER get in the fence with them. That is especially important for your children. Now, if the owners are around, maybe they can help educate you and the children about proper horsemanship (which begins with staying safe and respecting a horses power). Then, you can begin to interact more with them. My 11yo DD has been helping her dad (he is a farrier) since she was 7. She is educated. She goes out and catches her own horse (who is only 2, halter broke and spoiled rotten). My 3 year old is FORBIDDEN around the horse unless an adult is there.

  5. What creative ways have you found to fund your curriculum buying?

So, I can already see I have a curriculum addiction developing. I have taken time to research the curriculum we will use, and honestly didn't look at prices until I decided what we wanted to use. So, why is it that almost everything I have chosen has a hefty price tag? That being said, I do not want to change my decisions. I have the book "How to Homeschool for Free" but honestly, I prefer curriculum.

My DH is flipping out about the costs, which are going to be pretty high because of establishing our homeschool the way I *feel* I need it to be in order to succeed (with sanity). So, I am looking for ways to fund this and not cause any undue strain. :D

  6. First thought I had was ketones in your urine. Diabetes or weight loss can cause this. Also other kidney ailments. Also other things can too.

Diabetes is my first concern...I would have a A1c drawn to check your average levels. They could wax and wain.

  7. I will be HS an 11 and 4yo. I do not want to do "History of the World". I want something engaging and fun though. It's more important for my 6th grader than my preschooler.

    Please make suggestions. :D

  8. I am beginning to homeschool and also I'm in school FT. I also do classes online. I already have one degree and I am now in an accelerated online business degree. I find my online classes WAY more challenging and involved than my campus classes, but it is still the best option for me. My goal in pursuing this degree is to start my own business from home and do that as soon as possible. I need to do this while HS my last two children (:() so I have to find a way to make it all work.

My aunt cleans my house once a month in exchange for something I sell. I told my family they have to deal with the house being less than perfect. Somehow I always get my homework done, even if I have to ignore stuff for awhile.

I think it is worth it as long as my families needs are met. KWIM?

So, call me crazy. I am accustomed to the label.

  9. My name is Heather and DH is Chris. We live in central TX, and will be home-schooling our 11yo DD and 4yo DS this year.

I previously taught a 1st and 2nd grade bridge class for a co-op, and keep telling myself if I could teach 8 children to read, I can do this. However, I am still nervous for some reason.

DD has decided to set a goal for herself of finishing high school at the age of 16.

I just wanted to say hello and intro myself.

By the way, I am also in college full time myself for a second degree. I do all of my classes online, so I am blessed that I will be able to work along side my children.
