Had to go across town to a branch library and confess to spilling coffee on one of their books I got on a hold. ?
I also have one from our library we seem to have totally lost.

Keep them both!
I’m seriously tempted. I like the older set slightly better, but it is too fragile for the girls to handle, and a couple of the stories are marked on.

After a used book sale trip yesterday, I now have two sets of My Book House.
I can’t decide which one to sell! The 40s version in fair condition or the 70s set that is beautiful. I kind of want both...

The one from Cottage Press has a page for 5000-2500 BC and then starts typical pages at 2500 bc. The ones I printed off Guest Hollow for the little ones starts at 4000 BC.

Science: Let the little two watch and ‘help’ when your older child does their experiment. Then get a video or book from the library on the topic. If your third grader loves science, use the younger sibling readings at the back of your Elemental Science teachers guide. Otherwise, let it go.

I spent something like three hours today picking a student planner for my kids.
I may need help.

I don't have boxes coming.
Okay, that is also bad.

Waiting for boxes to come is the worst

I’m looking for more 4th and 5th grade, really, but that is a great list

Anyone have a suggestion for a good no nonsense workbook set that covers these topics without much of a political slant?

Hey, LB got a Booya/h!!! Sorry about having to have younger sib there, too!!
?
The Apple Store has let her join in the class, so they are somewhat redeemed.
(I’ve honestly never seen an event for kids this age require a parent present before.)

Have just discovered I must stay with the big kids at Apple Coding Camp. I have so many regrets about bringing the younger sibling.

I'm kicking around foreign language for my soon to be 7th grade boy. Likely going to go with French, as it's what I learned for a 2nd language and I speak it best.
SO MANY OPTIONS!
Here's the thing. We do not have cap-free internet. We have satellite internet. So our monthly data usage is capped at 15GB. After that, the speeds slow way the heck down. But...I can use our mobile data on my cell phone.
Still...a lot of the online programs are a bust for us. Which is a concern for Duolingo.
If I did decide to use Duolingo, is it enough? Would you recommend anything else to supplement? A workbook, for example?
What are your other favorites for foreign language, especially French?
Have you asked your librarian about resources? Our library has some children’s books in other languages, videos, and even a few foreign language conversation clubs.
That said, something is always better than nothing. If you can’t do a comprehensive foreign language program for seventh grade, it isn’t the end of the world. And Duolingo would certainly give your son some vocabulary and familiarity he could build on with later studies.

I’ve been parenting too long. All the parenting books sound idiotic and unrealistic, and my brain is such mush by bedtime I can’t remember how I trained previous children to listen at all.

I think I'm ready to try and fail at bullet journaling again.
I love failing at bullet journalling. The pretty journals of dot paper, all the pen colors, designing fancy headers and color coding things.
If only I could remember to write in the darned thing everyday, it would be the perfect system.

Oh dude, here I thought there was a little angel of reading to help us getting our planning done... I have no clue about your curriculum question. Did you google for the publisher to get the toc? Or maybe RR or CBD has it?
That would be a good job for a guardian angel, wouldn’t it! Unfortunately, it’s a Catholic curriculum, so not available from those retailers.

How many lessons are in levels B, C, and D? I can only find my teachers manual for A. It has 58 lessons, but I think the others might have fewer.

My six year old needs to just live in the naughty chair for a few weeks, I think.
If we do two foreign languages next year, do I *have* to do composition? I don’t wanna....

I have to write out a schedule. We can't have every day go until 4, and We need at least an hour of down time before evening activities kick in. The schedule helps me see ahead of time how many subjects we can realistically cover in a day. For instance, when I put it lb paper it was obvious that we couldn't spend an hour each I three different foreign languages and math, writing, history, science along with co-op Thursday afternoons. It also helps me see when a day is going off-schedule and how to adjust my expectations. Sometimes I cancel an academic class, sometimes I cancel a piano practice, sometimes we cut down the time spent on each remaining topic. Another thing that happens is I want to push through - "just finish these last three math problems!" but often we end me happily if we end by the click rather than my obsessive box-checking.
"Write out a schedule" sounds so rigid, but it really just helps me stay realistic.
Yeah, it’s preparing a schedule for next year that makes me realize I have an over planning problem. I love to add wonderful things, and it’s painful to remove stuff to clear up room.
It’s like forcing yourself to budget really.

What principles do you find most useful for limiting how much you plan or try to do with your kids? With so many good books, curricula, and appealing homeschool approaches, it is way to easy for me to overload us. Or for me to get stuck in this mom-spiral because I can’t decide what is the absolute best choice.

Thanks! Does anyone know of any French language learning podcasts?

I’m thinking of getting this for Brain Pop, but then I have to figure out what to do with my extra credits.
Anyone find any of their other programs to be awesome?
