    I would guess so, just based on the amount of reading done, but I'd have to look through his submitted work to see.  Honestly this has been a crazy busy year for me, so I have no idea what all he's done, just that he loved it and got fantastic grades

    DD (this is for 9th grade this coming year) will already be taking 2 online classes -- Connie's Organic / BioChem and something through AoPS Online (probably Pre-calc). I'm hesitant to add a 3rd online class because it seems like a lot of moving parts (different calendars, different platforms, etc.). Is that concern legit? DD has very strong EF skills - She managed Connie's Advanced Honors Chem (+self study for AP Chem) and AoPS Int Alg this past year 100% independently and did well in both. Maybe I'm overblowing the potential challenges?

    She enjoys literature and reads constantly. But she's never been in a formal lit class or class where there is group discussion of literature --we've always done a home grown lit where I pull together resources and we read, discuss, and write. On one hand, I think it would be good for her to experience a discussion based literature course. On the other hand, I love lit as well and am not eager to let go of the chance to read and discuss with her. I also like the idea of having flexibility in our schedule - we give up some flexibility with each synchronous class we take on.

    He says he enjoyed all of it.  He said the discussion forum was good but he also really enjoyed the discussions they had during class.  My son is still working on EF skills, but he had three online classes this year and literature was the easiest one for him to manage.  He'd never had a formal lit class before this year either, but he is a voracious reader.

We're planning for ancient history next year, and I'm debating between choosing topically from the Lucent World History series (that worked really well for us this past year) and History of the Ancient World.

    He reads the chapter, I read the chapter, we do the section 1 and 2 questions from the study guide orally, and then he writes out a response to the critical thinking question.

    Thanks for letting me know.  Aaagghh I just purchased the Henle 2 set from a distributor here in Canada, because shipping directly from Memoria press is horribly expensive.  All well

    *French 4, considering doing French 4/5 through AIM Academy

    *First Form Greek...maybe.  Three languages at a time may be a bit much, but he has been wanting to pick back up with Greek.  He did the Greek Alphabet book and some of Elementary Greek a few years ago.  He's planning to review the alphabet over the summer to prepare.  

    *Phys Ed: continuing to work out (we have Beachbody on Demand, and I let him pick out any program he wants to do), running when the weather is cooperative, and just general outdoor mountain man stuff. This may not be for credit

Finished off April with a 5K run yesterday.  I've never run that far without stopping before, so my goals were to just keep running and to try to finish in under 40 minutes.  I did have to kind of stop and quickly open a gate into one of our cow pastures, but other than that I ran the whole time and it only took me 35 minutes!

    Until around the middle of May.  Most of the cows will be done before then, but there are always a few stragglers who didn't get bred until late summer.  The busiest part of the season is over though, now we're down to 1-4 cows calving a day instead of nearly 20 a day.

  9. Hi ladies! I haven't checked-in in quite awhile, we've been very busy with calving.  I am still getting my workouts in.  I put 9 week control freak on hold and switched to 30 day breakaway, since the weather has been nice enough for running.  It's a 30 day program of weights, core, and running, which I started on April 1 and am so far still on track to finish on April 30!  Between that and the cow work I am logging anywhere from 6 to 10 miles a day on my fitbit, usually 8-10 miles.  It's actually been a pretty good calving season, we haven't had too much trouble and the weather has been pretty nice for spring in the Rockies :) Out of 312 cows we've calved 250 so far.

    It was a gorgeous early spring day today. I went for my first bike ride of the season!! It felt so good to be out riding around the neighbourhood. Dh and I are playing tennis with friends tomorrow. Can't wait!  I've been so fortunate to be able to transition smoothly and quickly from my winter sports to my spring/summer ones, at least to far. There could still be snow storms ahead - this is the Great White North. 😂

    It was a pretty nice day here in BC too.  We tagged some calves, I did a 9 week control freak workout (total body tone) and took a short, very muddy walk with the dogs.  We were visiting with the neighbors and discovered that a big chunk of their lawn was melted off, so we got out the spikeball set I got the kids for Christmas and played over there with their kids.  It takes some practice but we had a lot of fun and it's definitely a good workout as well.  They all want to play again tomorrow.

    We haven't had to bottle feed any yet, but I'm sure there'll be some bottle-feeding at some point.  We haven't had many first-calf heifers calve yet, mostly older cows who know what they're doing, so it's been pretty smooth so far.

  12. I haven't been checking in because we've started calving and so have been pretty busy. I have been fitting workouts in on some days, I've just started week 4 of 9 week control freak. Other days, like Monday, I log 10 miles and burn 4600 calories just doing calving work 😂 I'll try to attach a couple pictures of our newest additions.

    Yes, it's a yearly subscription that we do at home.  I think it's around $80-$100 a year, I don't remember exactly.  It's worth it for us because we live out on a ranch, so we'd never drive into town to go to a gym.  Also, there's a ton of variety, and they're always adding new programs, so I don't get bored. We get a lot of use out of it because I use it and both my kids (18 and 14) also use it.

    Glad you found some boots, good luck with skis! I think my ski season is coming to an end, our snow has been awfully soft, and once we start calving skiing will be the last thing on my mind :laugh:

  14. Rest day here, but I finished the first week of 9 week control freak yesterday.  So far so good.  They're much shorter workouts than 80 day obsession, but they are intense so hopefully I keep making progress.  The shorter workouts are good, though, because we should start calving within the next week or so and I won't have time for super long workouts.

  15. I did day 1 of 9 week control freak from Beachbody, and so far I like it!  Short but intense enough to get my heart rate up.

    Tried to ski yesterday but it was warm and the snow was so soft that it didn't work, but I did get in a nice long walk with my son and the dogs and enjoyed the sunshine.  Also did some yoga, and I plan on getting some yoga and a walk in today as well.  There are also stretching videos included in 9WCF designed to do before bedtime, so I'll be doing those as well.  Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

  16. Day 78/80: total body core.  Almost done!

    We looked up online what length of skis we needed for our height/weight, and then watched our local facebook group sale ads for skis in the right size range.  Same for the boots.  If you buy the boots separately, make sure they are the right ones for the type of bindings on the skis.  There are three types, the old 3 pin style, SNS, and NNN.  That's about the extent of my knowledge, as I'm a self-taught newbie :)  I'm sure @wintermom can give you better info!

    Now I'm hoping some of you have ideas for preventing leg cramps. On the nights of days I don't exercise, I have been waking up with leg cramps a couple times a night. In and of itself, that's no fun. Add in that I'm already up once or twice a night with baby and it's worse. Now throw in insomnia of the type that makes it really hard to get back to sleep, and I am desperate. 

    I drink a lot of water. I stretch before bed. I wear supportive shoes, I take magnesium. What else can I try? I know some say to avoid heavy or tucked in bedding, but the thought of giving up my weighted blanket makes me want to cry. 

    If you have any tips or tricks, please share.
     

    I use to have bad leg cramps and my sister, who was training to be a physical therapy assistant at the time, told me to eat a banana and drink a glass of milk before bed.  Sounds hokey, but it worked for me.  Something about the magnesium and potassium in the banana working with the calcium in the milk.
