All the Cool Places It Talks about in SotW Tour

    Waterfalls of the World Tour

Famous Places in Literature Tour - things like Baker Street in London, the Bastille, Huck Finn's Mississippi River, etc

    Places Jesus Walked Tour

    Me too!

Traveling puts things in prospective for me. First time in Europe I realized how close everything is.  When you grow up studying years of European history that spans over several leaders, years, and events, you start to think it's a large geographical area. For me it was like each country was the size of the US. (not quite, but still big) But after visiting, it was like moving from one state to the next--much closer than in my head.

I would love local food and/or local beer tours that are strongly associated with geographic areas..

Like you said....BBQ of the South

    Tex-Mex

Authentic Mexican (but on US side of border- I don't have a passport)

    Maybe Little Italy or Chinatown

    Seafood in North Atlantic states

I think I could go on and on and on. Haha

There's something about immersing oneself in a local culture that makes you appreciate the uniqueness and sensible simplicities of life, and food plays a major part.  So you'll get to eat your way around the States! Plenty to eat...I'm in!

What we love to see on travel is unique to all of us I guess. We've done the Taj Mahal, the fortresses, the palaces and also the Stately homes in the UK. Crown Jewels was quite disappointing in person for me. They seemed much prettier in the pictures. So too was Chatsworth (the Pride and Prejudice BBC House) got quite bored. I really have no art appreciation bone at all in my body so great paintings are better seen in pictures, not museums for me though I like Science and Natural History type museums. So I guess I am a neanderthal that does not appreciate history or art. 😊

But food is literally my love language. I don't want to eat Bizzare Foods like Andrew Zimmerman 🤣, more Anthony Bourdain style. Go to a place and have a local take you around to little markets, eat a home cooked meal, specialities that only locals know. I really miss Bourdain for his show, he had a wonderful way of appreciating food.

I would love to see the Taj Mahal. That may have to go on my list. And maybe the palaces/stately homes of the UK.

Now see, I do love the art museums, the Prado in Madrid or Vatican museums being two of my favorites, but sometimes those need to be taken in small, slow bites to truly appreciate. (hard to do when you have travel time constraints.)  Or walk through at a moderate pace until something strikes you and then pause and observe. Or get an automated tour that tells you of the most notable things... If I don't do one of these, I get stimuli overload.  It's the "fun" of art to see what resonates with each person.

Ah..nice topic. I have a bucket list of travel, things to do. Some we have already done.

Nature: See lions in the wild. go on an African safari, see the Great Barrier Reef, possibly polar bears. We have a list of animals and sea creatures we want to see in the wild. We've already seen wild tigers, elephants, done whale watching off the coast of Catalina and though not in a natural setting, but sea world behind the scenes tour,  touched a dolphin and a penguin

Mountains : Drive through the Alps. Done driving and seeing major parts of the Himalayas.

Natural Phenomenon: See a Glacier, Northern Lights. Want to stand on the shores of all 5 oceans, so far Pacific, Atlantic and Indian. Already seen Niagra and several waterfalls in my native country.

Homes of authors: Quite a few on the list. Visited the Austen, Bronte, Beatrix Potter and Shakespeare.

Culinary Tour: Pretty much any country. I want to eat my way around the world. 😄. Already visited several, but not a culinary tour.

Yeah, Monday felt like a ruminating day for me. It was chilly and rainy and CV....needed to dream and possibly get some great ideas from all y'all.

We've done some traveling, but there's soooo much to see. DH says he'd like to explore the monasteries of Bavaria and Austria. Why that specific area? Don't know, just wants to.  We've done the cathedral/church thing so he'd like to branch out.

ETA:  And, I also want to eat my way around the world. 👍 I might try a cricket but no rodents or equally unable-to-stomach items.

I didn't say anything about climbing them! I did Mount St Helens and it was awful. It's been 2 years and I've barely left the house since. I'm still recovering.

Ha! I don't think I'd ever recover or be in shape enough to even climb the "little" ones.  Hat-tip for climbing Mt St Helens!!

We have one called Pure Imagination in Ohio and the guy really is like Willy Wonka.

I'm going to look into this! I grew up in OH just south of Columbus and frequently visit family there so we might just have to work it into our schedule somehow.  Thanks for the tip!

    re Robben Island

That's one of the ones we saw.  It was a long time ago and the first one I ever visited -- just the very beginning of still-in-progress processing, but here are my pictures and reactions from the time.

Thanks for sharing! Our glimpse through your eyes...

The bike and barge cruse canal sounds amazing to me. Mine would be something bike related. Not long distance biking where you are carrying all of your gear, but more tour biking to see sites in both the country and city. We almost always do a bike tour first thing when we visit a new city, and I’ve loved every single one of them.

My next choice would probably be food related. Maybe something like local snacks, street food, or simple, local cuisine. When we travel, I always like finding the inexpensive, local favorites. So a tour around those would be great. Ice cream would be another. We did our own version of that one when we backpacked through Europe right after college graduation. Also, watching Vivian Howard’s new show on PBS made me long for a dumpling tour.

PBS get's you every time!...lol  I watched Vivian Howard's new show (Somewhere South?), and it had me thinking about simple, local cuisines.  I learned quite a bit in her porridge(?) segment about growing and cooking rice in the deep south, knowledge about growing/cooking brought over from African slaves.  Simple food, done well.

I'm sure there's a Vikings Cruise tour (PBS commercial, again) tailored made for your bike/barge cruise.  Those commercials make me dream of romantic Europe.  Fields of tulips...

I’m thinking mountains and waterfalls of any big, gorgeous variety. But now that I know there’s such a thing as garden tours of England and Scotland? Yes, please! I would LOVE that.

Waterfalls!! I didn't think of those, but that sounds calm and wonder at the creation of nature. I'm in!

    Me: World mountains

    Hubby: Culinary tour of Louisiana

Same sister that likes bizarre museums also lives in LA. We went to a shrimp and crawdad boil at a friend's house that was super fun and delicious. Great experience!

World mountains would be quite the accomplishment!

I want a caves of the world tour. I love caves. I could see a million of them.

Cheeses of France sounds pretty darn good too though. How about a tour of the best noodles in Asia. I'd do that.

I'd do a tour of weird museums in general. Like, the weird museums of Paris. I'd do that tour.

My grandparents took a "garden tour" of England and Scotland eons ago. My grandmother loved it. She talked about it all the time. From her telling it sounded like they really did just see gardens.

When I was a young teen, my parents took us to Mammoth Cave in KY, and I learned to appreciated the wonder of caves. It could be that the temp was around 100 degrees, and the cave was a cool 55. loved that! Just as long as it doesn't feel claustrophobic... But the crystals, beautiful.

Sign me up for the noodle tour! I love to try different flavors. Asian and Middle Eastern flavors/spices have spectacular depth.

I have a sister that loves to do bizarre museums big and small. She gets a kick out of it! It's like the bizarre collections reflecting the insides of a quarky mind...lol

I've always longed to do one of the great British gardens tours.

    Vineyard tours, ahhhhhh.

Totally different and markedly less pleasant vein, but having visited a handful of historically relevant prisons, I think I'd.... "enjoy" is not the right word, but "get a lot out of" a world tour through the lens of different nations' prisons.

Or maybe multiple tours of world gardens...that would be very interesting!  But I could go strictly British, too.

I'd go with you on the prison tour. That would be interesting but "heavy".

Two of the places I've always wanted to see are the rock hewn churches of Lalibela, and Petra.  So, could I take a world tour of ancient buildings hewn from rock.  I'm not even sure what other places qualify.  I guess I could just say made from rock, and go see the pyramids in both Egypt and the Yucatan.

If you need a tour that's somewhat realistic, assuming no kids, or covid, or knee issues or civil war, I could just do Ethiopian churches.  Or churches of the horn of Africa, because I think Eritrea would be awesome too.

Oh, I like these! Don't know enough about them so it'd be interesting to learn more.

    So many!

I think my first choice would be a Patagonia trek.  Oh my, I just spent too much time looking at different itineraries and the spectacular scenery. I better do this one quick though, because my knees give me more and more trouble every year when I hike downhill.

Then, when I can't taking hiking vacations anymore, I'd love one or more of those European river cruises, visiting multiple countries,  or  the Russian one on the Volga from St Petersburg to Moscow. My parents actually did a "bike and barge" canal cruise in Holland that sounded fantastic, and as it was during tulip time, was stunningly beautiful as well. Bikes are not so hard on knees, and they offer electric-assist for a (IMO) well worth it upcharge...

I'm supposed to be working on taxes, and I keep looking at gorgeous waterfalls/mountains/lakes instead!

Ha, a nice distraction to dream!!

Maybe it's watching PBS shows with the Vikings cruise commercials, cruising down the Danube sounds wonderful. Russia has an appeal, too.

I thought so, too. I'd never heard of it much before, but there seem to be several places to do it now. I don't live near an ocean, so it would also mean a trip to the ocean, which is really exciting as well. I love beachcombing and eating seafood.

I could go for crab and lobster in Maine/east coast! I have all things culinary on my brain. 😄
