  1. Since this will be our first year homeschooling, I would like to hear how to structure teaching day/week, what is your weekly routine? Do you teach all subjects through the year for an hour or so a week, or you concentrate on one thing for couple months, then move onto the next one...? Maybe you can point me to any room organizational tips - I don't want books and papers be all over my kitchen table, so we are setting up a quiet room for that. I was trying to search for such threads, but with no luck. I am sure it's been discussed many times. I fear that I will not be able to keep it serious enough for kids, I need structure myself more than they do. Because with no structure, I get really goosy loosy and get off track. :)
  2. That was not helpful, now I am back to being confused. :tongue_smilie: I will head to our local homeschooling store and try to flip through those books to decide which one I like better.
  3. Thanks for responses. My son is great at math and was always bored at school, even though he was in all advanced gifted/talented classes. My daughter has some math trouble, but it's mainly because she is easily distracted and teachers just don't spend much time on those who do not concentrate. I am not sure what program our school uses, but we decided to use the same curriculum for both. Hopefully it will be challenging enough for my son, and my daughter will be able to feel comfortable with math.
  4. We decided to take kids out of public school and homeschool. I reviewed many math curriculums and liked Singapore and Saxon the most. We did placement tests this morning and both kids would be doing Singapore 5 or Saxon 6/7 (kids are ages 10 and 11) So in long term, what is a better choice for math? Any cons or pros for either one of those? Thank you.
