  1. I am back...I think I joined the forums sometime around 2007/2008. We moved about the time the board was updated and I never had time to get used to the new board. Well, now I'm back and am "trying it out." I have graduated my oldest 2 daughters, one is off to college, and the other just got married...still have 5 more to go. It's crazy how fast life changes...last time I was here I was researching how to get my girls through highschool. It doesn't seem so scary now. Lol!
  2. Amy Pak has a World War II study...very hands on! We haven't used that specific one yet, but the others we have used, my kids have enjoyed and retained a lot!! It is scheduled out for 5 weeks, but you can tailor it to what ever time frame you have. Check it out at Homeschoolinthewoods.com
  3. I really LOVE this program, however, it just got to be too parent/teacher intensive and time consuming for us. It was great with one child, and doable with 2, but the thought of juggling it with 3 was just too much for me!
  4. I have just about everything figured out for next year, however, I'm still questioning whether I need a formal writing program or not. My kiddos will be 7th, 4th, and 1st grade. We will be using Amy Paks Time Traveler's cd's with everybody, Primary or Intermediate Language Lessons (4th grader), and Queens Language Lessons for the Secondary Child (7th grader). I'm wondering if there is enough writing between these programs, or should I add in IEW? I don't want to overload my kiddos, but writing is the one subject I always question myself on...am I teaching them enough? I would really appreciate any advice/thoughts you have for me! Thanks so much!!
  5. Awesome...My mother-in-law actually just gave us this set of books. I hadn't even thought about them. Thanks for the suggestion!
  6. We are going to begin American history this next year, and I really want to use the Time Travelers series from Homeschool in the Woods. I'm just not sure if it is a stand alone curriculum or not. I used it once before with my older kids, but that was a LONG time ago, and they were pretty young. This time I will have a 7th grade dd, 4th grade dd, and K/1st grade ds. Do I need to add a spine like MOH or All American History or something? I think I would like to add in some literature books (historical fiction and non fiction, and movies/videos). What are your favorite resources for American History? I plan to begin with New World Explorers this summer, and go through all 7 discs over the next 2 years (so my older dd will be ready to start the history cycle over in 9th grade). I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you have.
  7. I am beginning my planning stage for our journey into America history. We will be using the Time Travelers CD's (Homeschool in the Woods), but I would like to add in a bunch of living books for read alouds/readers, and also some educational movies/cartoons. Our library is not very helpful when it comes to borrowing books, so I'm afraid I am going to have to plan ahead and buy most of what we will need. I would greatly appreciate it if you could share with me great books/movies you have used to study the new world explorers. I will have kiddos in K/1st grade, 3rd/4th grade, and 6th/7th grade, so I am looking for books at pretty much all levels. I apologize if this has already been posted...I was unable to find such a list in all my seraching...Thanks so much!
  8. My daughter was given a book by our local library, The Shining Company, by Rosemary Sutcliff. I'm wondering if anyone here has read it and can give me a review on it...content, darkness, violence, language, age appropriateness etc? Thanks so much!
