  1. I have done both.

We got burnt out on the drive every week, and we never completely felt like we overcame the issues with the distance.

Could you join the closer parish and split your time between the two? It really does make a difference statistically in participation levels over time. OTOH, I do know quite a few people happily trying to build a community out of TLM parishes, which are generally full of people happy to be there and not apathetic.

  2. Heather, are you doing any couponing? You can save a lot of money, esepcially on health and beauty products. There are lots of free web sites to get you started.

http://Www.couponmom.com matches coupons with store sales. This helps with grocery stores and chains like Target and Walmart. Target has some really wonderful deals when you match Target sales and Target coupons with a manufacturer's coupon for the same item. This is a big time saver.

http://Www.sundaycouponpreview.com tells you which coupons will be in the newspaper inserts, so you can flip through and decide how many papers to buy that week, based on what coupons you know you will use.

http://Www.iheartcvs.com and http://www.iheartwags.com give you ad previews for those two drug strores. Their sales plus coupons and their rewards programs usually mean cheap or free items each week.

http://Www.southernsavers.com has a really nice set of videos that explain the whole process of getting started, even if you are not Southern. ;)

It takes me a few hours each week to collect the papers, clip the coupons, go to a few stores, and look online for deals. And if you are on Facebook, you can like the pages of tons of coupon blogs and just scroll through your newsfeed to find deals while you are already logged on. Very easy! But I have cut between 30-40 % off my grocery bill each week, and a lot more than that on cleaning and health and beauty stuff.

I know it is not making money, but it can help free up money for other things.

  3. It happens. I don't think anyone who is honest will say that they always feel the intensity, which makes sense because having that all the time would likely burn you out.

What I do is try to take a step back and really look at what is going on in my life. Am I taking physical care of myself? Am I sleeping well? Am I overscheduled?

What does my prayer life look like? Do I need to switch things up and try another devotion (add in the rosary, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a daily Mass)? Am I doing any Bible study or reading along with the daily Mass readings? Am I doing any spiritual reading and if so, do I need to switch that up (rotate through the saints, apologetics, church fathers, conversion stories)? Basically, I need to keep a good balance of these things. They don't need to take all day, but a few minutes here and there with a good mix of these things helps me stay connected and focused on Christ.

What does my downtime look like? What am I doing with it? Am I doing things that contribute to my spiritual health or detract from it? Same thing goes for the people in my life. Are they walking with me on the journey or leading me in another direction?

Most importantly, for me, when was my last confession? I need to go to the sacrament of reconciliation once a month or so, to really feel like I have the grace and strength that I need in my daily life.

  4. Speaking only for myself: no, the jokes don't help. They're not mean-spirited like the trolling was, but they make it equally hard for a group of people who are significantly in the minority on this board to have the conversation they wanted to have.

Maybe there needs to be a Social Group for this. That would keep whatever and whomever you want out of the conversation.

Obviously I have offended you, so I am going to bow out now.

  5. Sadly these threads often go this way. And then people wonder why some who were Christians are now not Christians. This is of course not the only factor, but it doesn't help. And I don't believe that most Christians feel this way, but there are enough of the mean narrow minded ones out there to ruin one's day.

I hope the jokes helped a little.

I am sorry you all could not have a serious conversation. It makes me a little scared for the future of classical homeschooling.

There are plenty of Christians who are not of that ilk, but then I guess they would not consider us Christians either.

It makes me really sad people use religion as a hammer.

  6. This is certainly a shock to see sooo many mamas, who hs thir chilren, have such different views.

    I'm confused on a couple things~Audrey says she's a witch, which I don't understand that at all.

Then there is a lady, who ends her posts 2mamas and 3 babies??

What an unusual topic. Most of my views re completely opposite most of yours, and I won't try to explain them.

Not everyone here is Christian, and even among those who are, there is a wide diversity of opinion. Not everyone homeschools for religious reasons. Not everyone on this board even homeschools.

People are diverse here. And if that shocks you, I suggest you read more and post less until the shock wears off.
