  1. I have not read the entire thing nor am I familiar with the history. BUT..is there any reason to believe Julie's story other than that she is female? Were there any medical records regarding the hurt shoulder?

I ask because, while I was a victim of abuse as a child, my own daughter was not. However, she has some serious mental health issues. She has a long history of accusing others of abuse. And she is abusive too. She was abusing her boyfriend. I know that she will be married some day and will abuse that guy. She abused me, her siblings, kids at school, teachers, kids at camp, and so on. I hear from people no one lies about abuse. But they do and they can. My daughter was the constant victim of everyone. She claimed kids at a home school group were mistreating her before I sent her back to public school. It was one of the reasons she got her first psych eval. She was attacking others, and then crying and claiming they attacked her. It is actually a common thing for abusers to blame their victims.

I do think Tony Jones's behavior is questionable. I do not know if Julie is telling the truth or lying. But, as far as my experience goes, abusers tend to be the outspoken vocal ones and the abused do not. So if Tony Jones was the first to go out there and attack and tell everyone his wife was so terrible and Julie was just defending herself because she needed to, then I would believe her over him. But if she came out swinging and he later defended himself, then I would side with him. But again, I do not know the whole story. I just tend to be a little more open minded that we might not all know the whole story.

  2. When my son broke his jaw and his wrist, happened on a Friday. he went in through the ER and was diagnosed with a complete break through his jaw and his wrist was broken. He still had to wait several days into the week to be seen by the specialist. And then he had to have surgery and have his jaw wired shut. That is the quickest we have ever gotten in. I really think it's crazy that someone with two broken bones has to wait that long for surgery

  3. That hasn't been our experience at all with specialists for me or my children.  It did take a few months to get into our Children's hospital but once you are seen by a specialist there you have priority.  They do triage you when you are first asking to be seen.  A review board looks at the notes/information sent by the regular pediatrician and appointments are made based on the board's recommendations.  They scheduled a brain scan for dd right away because that information was needed for triage purposes but once we discovered that her tumor was isolated to her eye and was not in the brain, she was at a lower priority level.  We were fine waiting our turn though as I said above it was only a few months.  We've never  had anything canceled on us.

Maybe it is because it was a tumor. For us, it was always related to autism or, in my daughter's case, mental health.

  4. Dance shoes are awful!

On a side note, I always wanted to take ballet when I was growing up. I never got to. As an adult, I signed up for adult classes. Others had shoes so I bought them. They hurt my feet so bad! I would try to talk to the store and the person teaching the class and they said I would get used to it. I would go home and look at my feet and my big toes would be throbbing and red. I dropped out and have never done it since. I do not think my feet were meant to dance.

  5. Where you have luck is..where I live, you will drive the long distance to the children's hospital for an appointment that you waited years for, and find out after you get there that they cancelled. If it is an initial appointment, it takes years to get in. If you schedule a follow up, the doctor can say some back in 6 months, but you usually cannot get the appointment for 6 months out. You generally have to go more like a year. You HAVE to get in under a year or you start over. And if you ever have to cancel, you have to start over. This is one of the main reasons my children have just done without the medical care, except my most medically needy one who started years before things got so bad. So he was in the system and had a variety of specialists, so even if something happened with one appointment, he had someone else on the books in less than a year so he did not get cancelled. But, for example, with my daughter, she waited almost a year for her first psychological evaluation. Once in on the waiting list, it took 8 months to complete it because she had to work with a variety of people. Once that was done, she went on a waiting list for treatment. After 3 yrs, she got in to see a psychiatrist, but she got the flu the day before. Got back on the 3 yr long waiting list, and she aged out. Now people will try to tell me that I just need to get "services" for my children and I feel my blood pressure shoot through the roof because these are clueless people. I finally told someone who was on the home school board, lived local, but I did not know personally, she was on my FB page. I told her fine, find those services for me. She failed. She really thought she was sending me links. But every place she sent me was cash pay only. Last I checked, I am not a millionaire with just one child to support.  She was so certain all kids with autism spectrum disorder can just call up and order all these free "services." Yeah, right. She did not find one therapist of any variety that worked for free. And if they were on insurance, (my insurance does not pay out of network) they were one of the children's hospitals and had years long waiting lists.

  6. If he's starting his 4th semester, and earned a C, two D's and an F in his major, here are things I'd want to know:

    o) Assuming he sticks with his major, often introductory courses are prerequisites for later classes, and prereqs often must be passed with a C or better.  Does he have to re-take all three classes he got D's and Fs in, in order to make progress in his major?  Often, at small schools, these are offered only once a year.  If so, how many years is he going to take to graduate?  He should have a tentative schedule for all the classes he is going to take from now to graduation -- what does that look like, and how long is it going to take?  Is this matched up to the actual schedule of when classes are offered?  Taking five or six years to graduate is going to be much more expensive that just missing one semester of scholarship.  Even if he does graduate in five or six years, unless he turns it around, and gets A's in his upper division classes, it may be hard to find a job with such a low GPA, even in a good field like computer science.

    o) If he does switch majors, can he finish in four years total, or is that also putting him on the five/six year plan?

    o) If he's getting such low grades that he is now failing to make satisfactory academic progress for scholarships, is he also on academic probation?  If so, is he also flirting with academic suspension?  No matter how many classes he takes this semester, what grade does he need in each of them to get off of academic probation, and not get kicked out of school?

    o)  Why is this an issue now?  If he was getting poor grades in his first year, I'd want to put in corrective action plan immediately.  It is his responsibility to get good advising.  If he doesn't like his adviser, I'm sure he can switch, but he needs to take responsibility for this, and go to his adviser, and listen to what he or she has to say.

His best semester was his first. Then it went downhill in the spring. The fall was his second chance.

  7. Is it possible his advisor is trying to drown him in classes? I had a horrible advisor my freshman year in college. It was very clear he did not like me during an initial meeting with me and 3 other girls that were coming in as freshman. He made a very humiliating comment to me in front of everyone.

After the meeting we met with him separately to discuss our first semester schedule. I remember him asking me if I was in the right major due to math grades. I told him I was willing to work hard to prove that I could do it. He loaded me down with 18 credit hours. I think it was Comp 1, Bio 202, Spanish 301, Spanish 302, Bio Lab, Calculus and a Genetics course. I freaked out! I knew I also had to work to help pay for room and board.  I had no idea how I was going to accomplish it. I put too much faith in the advisor.

Instead of just adjusting my schedule I quickly changed majors. I met 2 other people who had the same advisor, and he had done the same things to them.

    Just a thought.

    Kelly

His advisor is a mentor, so not in the major. So he is not trying to squeeze my son out. I suspect he just signs off on registering and from what I can see, my son registers online after that and can put in whatever he wants.

  8. With his multiple issues, have you tried a psychiatrist?  This is likely beyond the scope of a general practice PA or MD.

We have had good psychiatrists. But they keep dropping our insurance. Now we just cannot find any. The very very few that are on our insurance have long waiting lists and are a distance away. There is one in town. But he gets awful reviews. So I did not even want to mess with him.

  9. Guys often don't want to deal with feelings.

When you go to the doctor, try Deplin. Someone from the boards recommended it to me. I tried it and it has been all the difference. I know ob/gyns will give it.You need a prescription. Anti-depressants did not work on me.

  10. Another interesting tidbit. The cows in town all are registered. As are the horses, and donkeys, and..what was that new one I saw the other day Alconaras? The Llamas are registered too. Now..the reason for registering is not to control the owners..it is so if you find a cow walking down your street, they know which owner to call.  I know I spelled that one animal name wrong..but it looks a lot like a Llama.

edited to add: It's an Alpaca!

So if you see a cow or Alpaca wandering down your street, call the police and they will call the owners. LOL

  11. I also know that the local police expect you to shoot intruders? Odd..I know. But we had a burglar once and the police did not get out here before the burglar fled. And they barely did a report on it. They just wanted to know why I didn't shoot the guy. I complained to the town council. But they looked at me dumbfounded and they too wanted to know why we didn't just shoot the guy. Lovely. (hint: we do not own a gun)

  12. A thick uterus is wonderful. It is more likely the baby was poorly positioned if you were having aggressive and long contractions but little dilation. This last baby in December was my worst labor, even though it was done at home and a successful HBAC. He was well positioned but we didn't know he had a double nuchal cord around his neck that was very tight. So the midwives could feel he was engaged and his head was properly positioned, but I was stuck in transition and he refused to drop. It took three hours of transition to get him to tuck his chin and drop, then he was born quickly. But I dilated very slowly because he couldn't apply pressure to my cervix to dilate it. The midwives could barely get the cord untangled for his torso to be born, it was that tight.

We had zero decels or fetal distress, and they were monitoring me closely because of the VBAC. Fortunately for him my labor was gentle and not augmented, so he didn't lose any oxygen. Unfortunately for me, that gradual process meant I was stuck and couldn't progress until he was good and ready to let me :D

She never came down at all. But this pregnancy, I feel like he is already dropping. He feels low and I feel sore down there. I seem to recall on my vaginal births, I was sore between the legs for the weeks leading up to the delivery.

  13. I have had successful vbacs. But with my last baby, who is 9 pounds 3 ounces, I went in to labor naturally. And stayed in that condition for 44 hrs. The contractions were 2 minutes long and very big by the end. It was awful. I could not cope at all. I was screaming and crying. And I did not even dilate a finger tip. I do not even know why I never dilated. I did have excess amniotic fluid last time. So far, I do not this time. But since I have no clue what went wrong last time, I pretty much do not have much confidence this time. I wonder if my aging uterus is the problem? I am not sure. The perinatal doctor did comment that my uterus is quite thick. Do not know if that could cause anything.

  14. You could skip the science and leave it for the relative.

I am a creationist and my husband is an evolutionist. I teach creationist science to my children and if my husband wants them to have anything else, he will have to do it. Really, the creationist science does cover evolution, but more in a dispelling way. I think it is important to discuss with the parents of these children to find out what they want. I would rather not cover one subject than step on a parents' toes over religion. I think religion is important, and would never want to risk teaching someone else's children anything contrary to their religion.

  15. So I just got back. My protein was fine (just trace) and such. So I am supposed to get my own BP cuff and monitor. I have a fair amount of swelling and I was told to check my BP three times a day. Fill out a chart for that. Call if anything gets any worse. But everything checked out ok. And I am going to switch to weekly visits now.

Did I already post that last week, that the sonogram showed the baby to be 5 pounds 7 ounces at 31 weeks! I am thinking no vbac of rme.
