  1. Thank you for this reminder. I tend to link the two together, but I admit to being pretty "new" in my understanding of this stuff. I have a very long, entrenched background in biblical literalism, and am learning sooooo much about the universe this year. I admit to being a geek and getting really excited about it all, although I (clearly) have much more to learn.

It IS cool, and you are cool for being so excited about it! :001_smile:

  2. I don't know what stores you have in your area, but, we get things at Kroger, Meijers, and Whole Foods.  But, all grocery stores have things like Rice Chex and GF Rice Crispies, GF Fruity Pebbles, etc.  I promise it isn't as intimidating as it seems at first! :)

Oh, and where is the best (read: most affordable) place to buy things like tapioca starch and xanthan gum--the stuff used for gluten-free baking?

  3. When I was diagnosed last year, I got 'Celiac Disease for Dummies'.  It lays it all out for you.  As far as recipes, I have found the best ones online just by looking up gluten-free versions of my favorites.  Going gluten-free is very popular right now, and that is very beneficial for those of us with celiac.  The are TONS of things available in your regular old grocery store now-a-days!

Would a shot of penicillin make you as nauseous as the oral antibiotics?

No, it wouldn't, but, I'd have to go to the ER to get the shot.  I have to do that when I get UTIs.  I'm taking the antibiotics, I don't want to go around infecting everyone just because they make me sick(the antibiotics, not the people :001_smile:).  My mom was "vaguely" sick the week before we were, and I suspect she is the one we got it from.  Thanks a lot Mom!LOL

  5. I had surgery a month ago and am on pain meds, which of course make me fairly nauseated.  This past Monday ds awoke with a terrible headache and sore throat.  Took him to the pediatrician and he tested positive for strep.  Since I had been feeling pretty yucky myself, I went to see my doc the same day.  My strep test was negative, but, doc wanted to send it off for a culture.  Ds started antibiotics right away and felt much better by the next day.  Today, 4 days later, I get a call from my doctor's office saying the culture was positive for strep and she was calling in an antibiotic.  I'm not feeling that bad, about like a mild cold, really.  My question is:  Do I have to take the antibiotic, which I know will make me sick to my stomach(they always do), or am I likely about over this anyway, so what's the point?

  6. "In Rumpelstiltskin, did the king stop requesting the poor, hapless daughter spin straw into gold? Why did three days of gold satisfy his greed?"

I was just pondering this yesterday.  Also, why on earth would the miller's daughter want to marry someone who threatens to kill her if she doesn't do his bidding.  Even my 6 yo was asking why she married that mean guy.

  7. Does she have photos of her daughter on Facebook? If she does, I might comment on how lovely she was, that it looked like she was a fun person, that you bet she and friend had good times together - whatever is appropriate to the context of the photo. I would keep these comments positive and fairly light, going to a private message if I wanted to say anything more.

And you have already said it very well within your post: I'm sorry for your loss, you are very dear to me, and I care very much about your life.

    :iagree:
