  1. Though I haven't done this with Building Language, I did go through Music of the Hemispheres and make lesson-sized chunks. Some chunks are bigger than others and I have noted that in my planner. If we need to do a " big chunk" in one sitting, I adjust the other things we do that day.

    Maybe you could do that for Building Language ?

    Edited to add: Annabanna's answer is better. :-)

    Buidling language is more straight forward in its lay out.

  2. Oldest is just now finishing 4th. He does want a list to know what he has left ( not the best motivation :-(

    i have thought about moving toward a weekly list, rather than a daily list. Laura in China ( except now it Scotland) has a weekely list for her son Calvin. She has a blog, but I don't know the link.

    I bought an academic calendar last year for both, ( 2nd and 4th)

    they resisted them. i may try again.

  3. And I did also post on the highschool board, and Susie, you are right, I did find folks who have used both. yay.

    What I was trying to decide is which we are most likely to continue. I'm wanting to decide this far in advance so I can look for a sale.

    There seems to be a long0term preference for CD.

    Thanks to all.

  4. Involves cooking real food though , so it is time consuming.

    mostly

    1. cut out all starches , no potatoes, white bread , bananas or sugar.

    2. eat leafy green veg and yellow veg, ( not carrots, they convert to sugar)

    3. whole grains

    4. fruit on an empty stomach

    ~~~~~~~~~
    you can eat proteins and fats with veg.
    or whole grains ( no fat) with veg.
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    healthy but odd. This is hard for me to maintain during school year as it requires regular real cooking. and I usually do sporatic real cooking including casseroles, ( not okay, they combine fats and carbs and include forbidden starches)

    But when I am trying to loose, I do what Saint Susanne says and can drop lots of pounds in a little bit of time and feel physically great.

    everyone in the family can eat this, it's about cutting a few things out and timing the rest, but it's healthy , whole food.

    good luck.

  6. Rand McNally's geography ( we are using intermediate age 9+ )

    and

    down to Earth Geography, It is so far beyond map skills, but all 18 Geography Standards. and has grade levels.

    Geo didn't get done at all last year, I could never find ANYTHING that worked,,, and now I have an embarrassment of riches.

    I am going to start us all together on the Rand McNally.

    and then move to grade level Down to Earth. ( Teacher Created Resources... oops, did find two map mistakes in the DtE book. , so proof read the grade 3 , still a fantastic product I think)

  7. " move to town" ,, that's funny. ....anyway.

    Is there any review of Island/sentence material in the MCT Town level? Here's why i ask,

    I didn't discover MCT until mid year and we have been doing Island Level with my 4th grader. We have 3 more weeks of school and I really want to be finished with Island , nice and neat and move to Town Level for 5th,

    But we aren't going to be finished. We haven't finished Sentence Island , only completed 20 sentences in Practice Island, done only two stems in Building Language and are half way through the poetry book,, We did finish Grammar Island before doing any of these.

    So, would y'all,

    just take a chill pill: ( I'm running low on these by April ;-)

    and do three more weeks , then just pick up where ever we are at the beginning of 5th,

    OR

    do 3 more weeks of everything and just start at Town Level with unfinished Island in our past.

    OR

    concentrate on only a few components for the remianed of the year and finish up say ... poetry and building language next year as we do Grammar Town.

    What say ye?

    Oh, We are also finishing FLL 3 and 1/2 way through WWE 3 ( behind in these too.. sigh)

  8. just found it here on this board.

    just arrived from Amamzon. just what I've been looking for.

    from Teacher Created Resources

    ( however,,, not perfect. in 3rd grade book I have found two map errors, fixed them and will contact company, but still thrilled )

    covers the 18 National Geography Standards, not just map skills.

    I really like it.
