  1. the getting on the counters and eating food, and killing birds .. a friend's cat attacted her young child and she still has the cat..I SO wouldn't choose a cat over my child ( different story, but sort of my back story stuff)

I like to visit cats, but I recon I expect a pet to fit in to the household, not the otherway around..

Except I do hear the " he's a baby and needs some time, love and training" bit. I'd be up for that if we got a kitten. ( which is why I recon we dont' have one now) I'd have a squirt gun and encourage the kitten that the table or kitchen counteres weren't pleasant.

Our dog keeps peeing at the bottom of the stairs and she's not outside or gone. So, no I guess after one event.. pooping in a bed.

I won't call it an accident, could have been a statement or an acting out from some other need. but I'd be checking it out. and moving kitty's bed to the bathroom for night time until I fugured it out.

  2. Good luck with finding a new home. And good for you for asking here for opinions. I agree, you can't just put him outside, but I'd be pretty done too. Good luck finding a workable humane solution. Has he been fixed yet? Might his weird behavior have something to do with hormones? IF he's nto been neutered ( spelling?) that would be the most humane thing to do, have him fixed before you give him away. then you can fight over population.

  3. so far the most important thing I've discovered is CONTAINERS. ds has a good collection of containers, and dd fell in love with a Bento Box Laptop Lunchbox and paid for some of it herself. We both love it. everything fits.

We've had a good first week with pretty healthy things getting taken. Bread machine is out of the cabinet and we've had two loaves this week.

Heating the thermos with boiling water helped. Hot water wasn't enough.

And Deb in NZ, thanks for your breakdown of categories.

  4. Pippen,

I love the single servings in the freezer idea. I am aways making extra and making two meals while I'm cooking the first one,, , shoot, meaning I make enough for two meals if I can... but I hadn't thought of single servings.

    And salami and crackers..

And I'm still looking for a cheap copy of the vegan lunch box.

  5. I jsut heard a piece about some research into crisps. ( it was UK research) with and without the sound and the SOUND of the crisps made a huge difference in people's enjoyment of them.

I think the sound would be cool too.

and good idea bout the beads staying put until you move them.

I was actaully hoping for Pre-Algebra, rather than an I-Pad app.

    but this is cool too.

  6. I forgot hummus!!

I was a Unitarian for 20 years, how could I forget hummus.

    thanks all,

'Is there such thing as a thermos " dish"? ds would love leftovers. If he hasn't eaten them for breakfast. :-)

oh , and I'll check out the vegan book.. more fruit and veg will be great.

thansk for helping me " think outside the (lunch) box"

  7. have a 10 year old and an 8 year old, they are off to school for the spring..

lunches?? I have no clue about lunches?

(small , one-room style school house, must take lunch.)

beyond BP&J, does anyone have any great lunch ideas?

    thanks,

    ~Christine

  8. I love homeschooling. But after 5.5 years, I ( WE !) need a change.

We have all gotten burned out , I have no energy, the house is nasty.. like... nasty. I can't find anything, don't love homeschooling right now, everything has become a check list just to slog through and to " get school done"

Kids are going to a local, small Montessori school for the spring. I'm going to fix lunches, de clutter, rest, maybe fix the garden fence, maybe even put in that garden I keep dreaming about, try to keep the dog from eating the new chickens we are getting on Friday, plan for next year's academics,, Go to my fist homeschool conference, take them to TaeKwonDo, piano lessons and play practice.

and after-school 30 minutes of RS math or Latin Prep every afternoon with oldest, and 30 minutes RS Math or French for youngest. unless that becomes a hassle, If it does, you know what,,, I'm tossing that too. until next fall.

I plan to bring them home next fall for 6th and 4th and carry on for 4-5 more years.

take a break if you can. Just knowing the break is coming has helped me so much.

    Cheers,

  9. good for you for looking into it.

    happy searching.

I've homeschooled 5.5 years, ds is now 10 and in about 5th, dd 8 and about 3rd.

I'm taking a sabbitical while children are in a Montesorri school this spring , then it's back home for 6th and 4th.

Oh, kids attended preschool through K. We had a fantasict Montesorri school through K.

I am very happy we did that, I learned alot from that experience also.

OH,,, look at " Day in the Life " stories.

SWB has a few on her blog.

    happy hunting.

  10. Chalkdust Basic Math?

We will tranisition from RS E to Chalkdust Basic Math. ( cheap version via Pongo's method)

You may want to look at it.

AND RS is perhaps going to have a prealgebra program, some big Right STart announcement in a few days.

inspired by your post , we may look at RS prealgebra then go to Chalkdust prealgebra.. I know that doesn't help with the MUS question, I just thought I'd muddy the water. your welcome

  11. We are oh so happy with Latin Prep and Latin Exercises. and successfully used Jr. Maths to supliment RS to teach to the test just before SAT's last year. That worked well.

    Thanks a million,

get-it-done is what we are looking for. thanks again.

  12. Hi All, Science wasn't happening at our house.

I hired a science tutor and while that has been wonderful. I can't keep that up.

I need a straight -up, secular, covers-the-basics, easy to implement program.

And while cost is a bit of a concern ( hate to buy something else that I dont' use) almost any program will be cheaper than a tutor.

I like scripted, get it done stuff. I am not feeling like exploring , just want to check it off.

    Anyone have any ideas.

oh kids are 8 and 10 years.
