  1. My 'little man' was born at 25 weeks, and we spent 7 months in the NICU. My prayers are with this young family. Here are some thoughts:

Offer to do laundry, clean house, feed/walk dogs. Anything that needs to be done on a regular basis, but they don't have the time and energy to do now.

Call - ask how baby is doing. Ask how parents/grandparents are doing. Listen. And do this over and over and over. She will need a safe place to talk. Like others have said, this is a HUGE roller coaster she is on - and with a baby born this early, it's for a long time.

A journal and pen to write down thoughts/progress/ difficulties is helpful. Disposable cameras if they don't have digital. Gum - lots of gum. A blanket for mom and a book or two to read while she sits by her little one. Puzzle books.

And I agree - food is always welcome! :)

  2. I have no idea how to sew. Oh I can put a button back on, and hand stitch a hem if I have to, but beyond that - nothing!

My dd really wants to learn to sew, and so do I. My mil gave me a basic sewing machine but I have no idea what to do with it. I think I'd like to give dd some basic sewing stuff for Christmas so we could start the year off learning how to sew together.

Thoughts? What do we need? Where do I start? Thanks for your advice. I'm truly clueless about this.

  3. My dd is doing first grade work in grammar. We are progressing through OPGTR and have begun FLL, and she is doing really well. Is it too early to start a spelling program? What would work best with OPGTR, FLL and WWE (plan on starting that in the fall) - Rod & Staff or AAS? Any thoughts/suggestioins would be appreciated. Thanks!!!!!! :)

  4. We are having a 'sports themed' new year's party Tomorrow night, and I need some ideas for games for the adults. We will have about 6-8 couples and their kids here (ages 1-15), and I'm drawing a blank for some fun activities. Want to have some fun group games for us to do. We are a religious group, so no drinking or inappropriate or suggestive behavior - just good clean silly fun! Any ideas? Thanks!!!

  5. Amen!!!

Having a child born extremely prematurely, with very severe issues - I never got 'congratulations' on having my first son. Especially from the medical staff. It was always 'I'm sorry'. :( You are so sweet to be concerned for your friend.

Congratulations are in order! Be happy. Be excited. Smile! And love on that baby and the momma as you would any new birth! Her child is a blessing - even if it's a different path than was originally planned. God is in control - and this child is a blessing!!!!
