  1. They can be replaced rather easily.  It's not a big deal.  Things do wear out and need to be replaced. So do our refrigerators and ovens, and pots and pans etc.

Now this is an appealing idea. Our house was built in 1970 and has custom cabinetry. It appears the original owners used the pull out cutting board a lot because it is very worn in the middle. It doesn't seem to be the kind of wood I would expect to be used for a cutting board. If I could replace it, or maybe use mats, I may like it. It would give me more counter space in area that could use it.

  2. Thanks for this thread. It reminded me that I have a pull out cutting board I've never used and I went and pulled it out, which hasn't happened in maybe 5 or 6 YEARS.  Folks, it was covered in a blanket of green MOLD. I wiped it all down with Clorox wipes and then sprayed it with a mixture of vinegar and Borax. There is still black gunk in all the knife grooves that I can't get out. I am in no way a clean freak (obviously, since I hadn't pulled this baby out in 5 years!), but no, no, I will not be using my pull out cutting board :ack2: .

  3. Your price should reflect the hefty shipping cost by either increasing the overall price or having the buyer pay actual shipping fees, but it seems the going rate for SL Cores is typically 50% of the original price....which is still a lot of money because SL is so spendy!  One of our Hive mamas gave me an amazing deal on 200 and 300, so I'm set for the next couple of years, and I'm SO grateful!

  4. I think our dogs and cats think the rabbits are just more cats. We have a tripod cat that looks like a rabbit when she walks/hops, so maybe that throws them off!  The dogs have chased squirrels and rabbits around the yard, but they've never chased the pet rabbits in the house.

  5. Sparrow, what colleges are near you? Always interested in Michigan schools!

I'm within an hour of Adrian, Albion, Hillsdale, Olivet, and Spring Arbor, off the top of my head.

Snirt.... Gonna have to use that one :)

 I heard it for the first time this year and thought, "Where has this word been all my life!?"

:)  My dh has vacation time coming up next month (mid month) so while it's not the best, it's when we will be headed over.

When you say South Central, any area you'd recommend looking at?

No one has mentioned Lansing area yet.  Is there a reason for this?

I'm partial to Hillsdale and Lenawee counties :thumbup1: . Rural, but never too far away from anything.

  6. You may want to look in south central Michigan (south of 94). We get the final wisps of lake effect snow, so it's never too bad. I don't know how people deal with it on the west side of the state! We moved back to my hometown after living in Ann Arbor for 15 years. We're about an hour away from "the big schools" and live among several smaller liberal arts schools. We've found that we've attended far more concerts and lectures than we ever (read: never) did living and working for U of M. The terrain is rolling and there are lakes everywhere. It reminds me of further up north with fewer conifers and more deciduous trees.

My dd, has been welcomed, with open arms, in public school music programs as a homeschooler.

I would avoid visiting in March to make a decision. It's typically not a pretty month in a pretty state. Lots and lots of snirt (snow+dirt). Come in May or June! I've lived here my whole life and have never desired living anywhere else. It's just that perfect :001_wub: .

  7. I don't have a competitive bone in my body. It's hard for me to understand why people get so worked up over games and sports, but I know it's just a personality type.

I often let people I know to have this trait win because I know it means more to them than it does to me :leaving: .

  8. Geocaching is fun! We haven't done it in a few years and you reminded me; I actually have a hockey puck that we took from a cache in SC on vacation and never put back out because it got lost in our camping gear along the way. I found it again, so this is a great reminder to get it moving. Won't they be surprised when it starts moving again? I feel terrible that it got lost and has been dormant for so long, but I love the excuse to get back out and do some more geocaching.

ETA: If you don't have a smartphone, or dedicated GPS device, Nokia Lumia 520s have a GPS chip that does not require a data plan. I picked up a couple of these when Amazon had a Gold Box for $19.99, but they're only $29.99 now. I actually downgraded my slowly dying smartphone to a dumbphone and carry the Nokia for when I have access to wifi, which is often. Works great!

  9. I think I saw it in a catalog somewhere, and searched on Amazon to find it. :)

Another unexpected hit: Monty Python Fluxx. Someone played the Fake Accent rule, and we were laughing so hard we were nearly crying. Our Japanese student doing a fake British accent was HYSTERICALLY funny. She's a hoot.

We came SO close to buying Monty Python Fluxx, but ended up buying Star Fluxx, with the understanding that MP would be next!

  10. Everyone seemed particularly satisfied with their gifts this year.  Dd, 13, loved her bow and arrows. Ds, 14, was most excited by his very official looking Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D polo and history of guns encyclopedia.  I am thrilled with my Handbag of Holding from ThinkGeek and dh was surprised by his Good Mythical Morning mug :001_smile: .

Ds11 is begging us to find old credit cards and gift cards so he can use his guitar pick punch. Seriously, the kid has already punched a lifetime supply of guitar picks and he wants to punch more.

The kids pretty much liked everything that they got. They always do, they're easy that way.

DD's fiancé liked the book we got for him, What If? I knew he would because my boys have been reading it non-stop and he's got similar interests.

A guitar pick punch! I had no idea such a thing existed and now we MUST have one!

  11. I'm sorry. I know how much it hurts. My dad is the same way. During my my kids' spring piano recital, my son was playing beautifully, but lost his place for a few seconds and paused in the middle of the song until he found it. Of course we were recording and at the end of the recording you can hear my dad start to say, "Why'd he stop!?" It's cut off on the video, so you just hear, "Why'd...", but *I* know what he said and I grit my teeth every time I hear it.

  12. I was called back last year. They found 2 spots, on one breast, they wanted to check. One ended up being a benign fibroadenoma, the other a fluid filled cyst. I also have very dense breast tissue, which makes it difficult to see. The doctor told me I should be encouraged that despite my dense tissue, they were able to see abnormalities, which is what we want mammograms to do.

:grouphug: It is nerve wracking. I hope everything is OK.

  13. I have a Fitbit Zip, as does dh. We're competitive. I also like the community groups, like the one here. I have another smaller group and had been the leader for some time. I've gotten maybe a little bluesy and lazy with all the grey weather we've been having close to the holidays. A woman in that group was so excited to pass me! I had been motivating her and now she is motivating me to get moving again!

  14. Yes, I'd like to join. Our income decreases dramatically in the winter months. Every year we say we need to make some changes so things aren't so tight for 4 months. We have already decided to de-clutter, and make some extra money while doing it, by selling on eBay. I have at least a half dozen Vera Bradley purses that need to go.

I'd really like to plan out a rotating menu of 20-30 family favorite meals that I can mix and match. It just seems so daunting :P .
