  1. Thanks again everyone :) Just wondering then, do you have a separate box for each child? I have currently been using one box for two children, but then I tend to not do the review cards because it is too confusing to sort them into whose cards are whose!
  2. Thanks everyone :) So great to read all your responses!
  3. Anyone use WriteShop with multiple children? Just a few weeks ago I purchased book A for my first grader and book C for my third grader. Thought it would be fantastic to just slot in some time each day to work through. But I cant seem to just open it up and go! There appears to be prep work that I have to do first. So after 4 weeks of this term, we have done I think 2 lessons each. Can anyone explain how its possible to fit this program into our weekly schedule? I keep thinking I need some time one weekend to prepare, but that never seems to happen. How much prep time is needed and how long do you use this program on daily/weekly basis?
  4. How long do you take to complete one step and how long do you spend each day doing spelling?
  5. Ahhhh thanks Crimson wife! I hadn't thought of that :) I am fast tracking through a couple of the easier fun chapters in 2B, so I think that would totally work. I will have a look into it, thanks.
  6. Oh wow, thanks so much everyone for your replies! Just to further clarify, hubby would like to know that our children are not falling behind compared to the public school system. He would like to know that they are where they should be if they were in school, or ahead would be fine too. :) But he doesn't want them to be falling behind. So this why I was asking my original question. Either one of my dc are ahead or the other one is behind grade level. There are 2 years in age between them but only one book in between them. So I was looking to see if we are fine to continue how we are or if I need to gently push one of my dc a little to catch them up. Thanks :)
  7. Okay, thanks :) I was meaning as in reference to their peers. So I will need to look at our states curriculum. Thanks again, this thread has been an interesting read :)
  8. Thanks :) Yes we do do some subjects together: Bible, Calendar, History, Science, Art, Poetry, Literature. I guess I was looking for ways that other families fit in all their Math and LA as they really need mummy :) We usually do math together, with mummy going to and fro between each child. Then I had scheduled different time slots throughout the morning to cover LA individually with each child. I only drafted up this new way last week, so I will give it a couple of weeks and see how we go. Thanks again
  9. I switched over to Singapore 1A with my then 2nd grader. She was at a higher level with her pervious maths program, but there were a few concepts that she hadn't picked up, hence the reason for going back a little. In 12mths though, she has progressed thru 1A, 1B, 2A and is now onto 2B. So even though I had to take her back a little, she is moving thru the program rather fast. We are in Australia so she will finish grade 3 in December this year. I anticipate a speedy movement thru 2B then 3A, and perhaps even be onto 3B by the end of grade 3. We love Singapore!!! I find that some chapters, she gets it and moves thru extremely fast, then others chapters, she needs a little longer to grasp the concept. My grade 1 child has completed both early bird maths, 1A and is onto 1B - she loves doing her Singapore math too :)
  10. I thought Singapore Math levels were about a year above that of the ps system. But from reading on forums, I have discovered that many Singapore users, seem to have their children at the same level in Singapore that they would be grade level. Can anyone clarify this for me please? I have a DC grade 1 level on book 1B and another DC grade 3 level on book 2B. Does that mean one child is ahead or one child is behind her peers?
  11. I have 3DC. Grade 3, grade 1 and preK. Realistically, how do you fit in all the different aspects of homeschooling with 3 children at different levels and all still very dependent on mummy's teaching?
  12. Wow what an interesting read!! I have only just been looking at year round homeschooling this past weekend. We live in Australia and my 3 girls are heavily involved in dancing. I have in the past organised our school to cooincide with the dance timetable, which lines up with our ps system here - 4 terms of 10weeks, with a 2 week break inbetween each, except for 7 or so weeks in Dec/Jan. The girls also perform solo routines in eisteddfods and so at times, like this past week, we have an eisteddfod and only end up being at home to do school one day out of 6. So not much school has been done. But we have about another 7 eisteddfods between now and October, which means many more days or weeks of not getting much school done. Most of October/November each year is spent getting ready for their end of year concert too - me sewing costumes, so we have always kept forth term a light school term (hope that makes sense). Anyway, usually when we have holidays from dancing classes, we take holidays from school too. But we have more time during holidays to do school as we have less time pressures and can enjoy our days together. This year we started school earlier in January than the ps do here. My children are ages 8, 6, and 4. They are young so that means still very dependent on mummy for their schooling, for teaching them. So after this past week, I feel like we are getting behind a little. I am toying with the idea of doing school year round. I like the idea of 6 weeks on, 1 week off. But actually maybe school each day that we don't have an eisteddfod!!! I'd love to hear from anyone who has any other ideas for me :) Thanks!!
  13. How would you recommend using Miquon Maths books with children who already using Singapore? One child is on book 2B and one on book 1B. thanks :)
