  1. This is old, but I'm bringing it back to see if anyone has figured out a way to do this. :001_smile:
  2. "We also noticed that there were things on the checklist that he KNEW, but that weren't tested, because the test assumed if you didn't already know X, you couldn't have known Y or Z, either. ... the test was mistaken!" Ha ha! Yes, I noticed the same thing.
  3. Finished the ADAM. Eye-opening! No wonder I'm having trouble finding a good fit. What do you do if the strands (numbers and operations, measurement, data analysis, geometry, and algebra) come out at wildly different grade levels? I know MM is available to buy topically. What else is? It looks to me like if I take a couple days to explain measurement and do a short unit on geometry spanning a few grade levels, it will be easier to make a good placement. Anyone have recommendations? Thank you for suggesting this test. So helpful! ETA: To be more specific, this explains why every time we start a program based on publisher placement tests, most of the work ends up being trivially easy and the rest seems completely over my student's head with almost nothing in the sweet spot of appropriate challenge.
  4. I recently bought SCM's Planning Your Charlotte Mason Education, even though I don't use SCM, and I'm finding it to be an excellent planning tool no matter what approach I'm taking in different subjects. It has enormously simplified the process. So much so that I can't overstate it. It's making it easy to pull from different lists and sources. Might be worth trying.
  5. Thank you. I had no idea that such inexpensive tests were available. That's great.
  6. I find more overt racism than I do sexism in these books. I think that's because people were taken with a lot of strange racial theories when these books were written, and so they often go into them as popular issues of their day.
  7. Trying to figure this out on my own is costing a huge amount of time and money (and clutter with all the unused resources.) My child is six. What might be a helpful test for determing where he is in each subject?
  8. Math: Life of Fred, Primary Challenge Math, and continue with enrichment tutor History and Literature: Sonlight B with occasional activities from WP Hideouts in History Spelling: Spelling Power Language Arts: Evan Moor Grammar and Punctuation to be followed by Grammar Through Writing or Evan Moor Daily Trait Writing and Story Telling, also Evan Moor Word a Day Handwriting: Getty Dubay Italics Greek: continue with tutor, possibly supplement with Greek for Children Science: Evan Moor Daily Science, Magic School Bus Science Club, Watch Mr. Wizard, and Sonlight's Discover and Do DVDs ( Over half of my son's independent reading is science-related, so I'm keeping the planned stuff light. The DVDs are for occasional fun. My kids don't get to watch regular TV.) Music: piano, Young People's Concerts Art: Artistic Pursuits Religion and Bible: This is so much a part of daily life that I won't be putting it in the schedule at this age. For assigned independent reading, I'll just keep throwing books at him. I pick from a lot of different lists. I'd like to find a Bible and poetry memorization program that's already planned out.
  9. Longtime lurker here. I thought that this combination would be common, but I have not been able to find any information in my searches. I'm planning to do Sonlight Core B next year, but I thought it would be fun to add in activities from the WinterPromise Hideaways in History activity books. Has anyone done this? How did it go? (Also, any tips for SL Core B from those who have BTDT are welcome!)
