Heard from the vet surgeon. The surgery went well. They've inserted a plate and several screws. They managed to remove a few shards of bone that would cause problems and left the other shards that were not in a problem area. He should be home in a few days. It took 2 vets and 2 vet nurses 4 hours to perform the surgery.

Still waiting to hear how the surgery went. Hope I get some news soon!

I've made my own bread on and off for 9 years now. I used a bread maker in the beginning but was never really satisfied with the results. Now i use this recipe and make a couple of batches a week. I also used the Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a Day for a while but just don't have the fridge space for dough at the moment, so can't do it anymore.

Thanks Polly. She's still in PICU but improving.

Our beautiful dog Jasper, a whippet was hit by a car last night whilst out for a run with my DH. He's in surgery now for a shattered pelvis and fractured hip. Cost will be upwards of $3,000. I'm just so relieved he will be ok. The vet says he should make a full recovery and have good quality of life but it will be a long recovery, 8 weeks or so.
DH had him off lead in an isolated area, we live rural. He is a very good dog and generally stays right by DH with our other whippet Indy. A kangaroo caught his attention and he set off to chase, DH called him back and when he turned to come back he put his head down and bolted straight across a road where a car hit him. Thankfully he wasn't run over. The driver kindly stopped and brought my DH and the 2 dogs home. We took him straight to the after hours vet where he was given painkillers and sedation until he could be x-rayed this morning. He's in surgery now, i'm anxiously waiting to hear the outcome.
I am so grateful that we can afford to have his injury repaired and that our hand was not forced to have him put down. He is a beautiful dog. I'm sure DH will never let him off lead again! He's been very shaken up by the incident.

Update ~ Miss E is off the vent, she is on 1.5L of oxygen and after suffering withdrawals from some of the meds has been started on a new round of meds. She's looking much better and even got a cuddle with Mum. First 1 in 3 weeks!
Thankyou to everyone sending prayers and thoughts.

Are there samples anywhere online? I can't find any which makes it awfully hard to make a decision.

Rough night for Miss E. Her oxygen requirement has gone up :( Hopefully this is a minor setback and she will have a positive day.

Miss W is now home. Miss E remains in an induced coma in PICU. She is still ventilated and struggling. I can't remember if I said originally that she has RSV. Her oxygen requirement has come down in the last couple of days, so hoping that she has turned the corner.

I agree, i don't think it would be weird at all :)

Brilliant news! So glad you got your IB approval :)

Thankyou. As far as i am aware the only testing available in Australia is strictly regulated and only available to certainly year groups on certain days. You can't simply sign up and do the test when it suits you best. Thankyou for the information i will take a look at the PASS, MAP, DORA & DOMA.
-
Are these 2 the most common standardised tests?
Any others you can recommend?
Can i do these tests in Australia?
What information can they tell me?
Where can i get them?
Ideally i would like a test that isn't timed, doesn't ceiling, i'd like the test to provide some feedback on the grade DD is working at in maths & english and highlight any gaps so that we can plug them. Does such a test exist? Is it one of the above? Which one?
Also DD is currently registered as an Australian Year 2 according to her age however i feel that she is working on a comfortable Year 3 level for maths and possibly Year 4/5 or more?? level for english (language arts).
Mostly i would like the results for my own purposes however we are moderated by the state and i may use the results as leverage to access external extension classes in the future.
Thanks for your help :)

If you have a look here I've got a list of some ideas. There might be a computer based programming idea that he could work on without you.

I don't know about the Student's or Teacher's Quest books, but DS also has very much enjoyed the first book in The Story of Science. He's also loving The Magic of Reality, another book I might not have bought if not for this site. They're both gorgeously made, in addition to being well written. I think National Geographic has done a wonderful job with their modern book lines.
Who's the author for The Magic of Reality? I've just wish listed the all 3 of The Story of Science :D
I had the privilege of touring SWB's farm!
