  1. we now have 3 drivers in our family and I want to get my daughter her own key to the vehicle that she will be driving....but our dealership wants to charge us over $100 to cut us a key and program it. Do we have any other options? If not, then we will just play pass the key...which is fine...but I think she likes the idea of having her own key.
  2. How do I determine if I need to do something in the area of spelling with an 8th grader or not? His spelling isn't horrible, but it isn't great either. Are their programs that are geared more for the older kid? I was looking at Spelling U See. It looks interesting...and later I will test him to see if he places in the last book. But I was curious what you all thought about spelling in 8th grade. thanks.
  3. how long do eggs last?? these are farm fresh if that makes a difference.
  4. I was just given 66 eggs.... I would first like to make a couple egg bakes....but they would need to frozen....so if you have an awesome recipe, please share. Also, then, what other sorts of things can I make with a lot of eggs? thanks.
  5. The Holt McDougal program looks interesting to me....but I would like to see a samples (video and book) to see what it all really looks like. Do you know where I might find those?
  6. I am not against going used...but if it's online, you can't do that.... Mr Q isn't video based. But it does look very user friendly. Have you used it?
  7. my daughter did Apologia and hated it. It was so dry and boring....and the DVD's that you can buy with it weren't very helpful. Sorry, I don't mean to shoot down every suggestion here. Maybe what I am looking for doesn't exist. sigh!
  8. FundaFunda and ACE are $300+...we really can't afford that. I missed the sale on the fascinating biology, because we were camping...and because i didn't want to make a quick decision...I am still not 100% convinced that it's hard enough to consider a HS level course either...but I will be looking at it again. Any other options for me??
  9. I can't use the summer because she has a full time summer job. She used Math Relief Geometry. Although I felt that MR Algebra is great....the geometry just doesn't seem strong. It took her way less than a year to complete (she started it in October and finished in March) and there just wasn't much work required. And, when I realized this, I started having her do Khan and she struggled...so I know it was a weak program.
  10. What other sites are similar to Khan...especially for science and math... But other subjects too.
  11. I was looking at the testimonials and many people were using them for their middle school children....if a program is easy enough for middle school, I wonder if it's too easy to be considered a High School level program. Also, do you know if taking this bio and NOT this chem (he did a chem class from a different program) will throw him? thanks.
  12. ACT not super important for College entrance...but for scholarship options. If we do what you suggest, what about the geometry part of the ACT. I already know the Trig part she will fail...so I want her to get as much of it as possible.
  13. good points on the timing of Algebra 2. thanks for those.
  14. Let me first say, I did look at the sticky on biology options....but I am looking for a video or online option...but not a live class (can't afford that)...and there was only one or 2 that listed that option. I do not need an AP/Honors Bio....just a regular, get it done, but done well option. I want a program that does more than just the labs on DVD. So, I was curious what my options might be. Please share with me what I should consider. thanks.
  15. My non-mathy kid made it through Algebra 1 her Freshman year. She did Geometry this past year, but it wasn't until she was done I realized it was a fairly lame program and I think she needs to retake geometry. I am considering TT because it looks like it will cover the basics without being overwhelming to her. She is college bound, but not in a math field nor will she need more than Algebra 2 to enter the college of her choice. But this is my deal....if I have her retake Geo this year and Algebra 2 her senior year, (or even vice versa), when she goes to take the ACT (hoping she can do it sometime her JR year...which will give her time to retake as needed), she won't be ready for it in the math section. So, I was wondering if it would be crazy for her to take both Geo and Algebra 2 at the same time. The Algebra program we are planning on is Math Relief, since she did Math Relief Algebra 1 and did well. She might even get to skip bits and pieces of the geometry, depending...especially the beginning stuff. Here is the rest of the stuff I was hoping she could do next year: (keep in mind she is not an AP or honors student) Conceptual Physics Latin World History using Great Courses and some other things I put together for her Bible Writing using EIW 11 Economics (although this could wait until her Sr year) Organ and then 1 or 2 math courses what do you guys think? thanks.
  16. Do you have to have wifi to use Teaching textbooks? Sometimes we like to go camping in the fall and spring...and I was wondering if you had to have wifi to make TT work? I looked on the website, but didn't find the answer. Hoping someone here can give me the scoop. thanks. Kathy
  17. what causes it to get clogged? is it preventable?
  18. I have a fairly new refridgerator/freezer...about 3 years old. about 3 months ago I noticed there was water all over the floor right underneath it. Upon further investigation, I noticed that there was a sheet of ice right under the freezer compartment (the freezer is on the bottom). So I removed the ice. About a week later, same issue. There is no water hook up to this appliance, so I don't even know where the water is coming from. Does anybody here know why this is happening and why it started 3 months ago...and how I can fix the issue? I am afraid to leave it while we go on our lengthy vacations this summer. thanks Kathy
  19. thanks for all of the above links. I saved them and will looking at them in more depth later. thanks.
  20. Did that...but I still can't find the board in her account
  21. not trying to be difficult...but my page doesn't look like that in the link....I can't find the menu button...sigh... sorry guys. thanks for trying to help me.
