I used to accept venmo payments for my tutoring business.  It had a nice interface and was easy to check whether folks had paid up.  Now they ask for a cut of the transaction when exchanging money for goods/services, similar to the paypal policy.

I now ask people to pay me with zelle as there is no transaction fee.  But tracking payments is less convenient because my only notification is via text message.  It works, but I prefer the accounting provided by paypal and venmo.

Both my cell number and my email are tied to my Zelle account. I have my notifications set to email because it's easier for me to keep track of things that way. So you might check and see if there's a way to change your Zelle to notify you by email if that would work better for you.

Any theories as to why this index is showing positivity rates as being higher in the vaccinated groups?

Possibly those who are vaccinated are more likely to pursue testing if they feel sick. If you don't get tested, you don't get counted as positive.

Very recently I started getting spam emails in a yahoo account, where previously, I rarely did.

They started literally within minutes of my answering a Craigslist message regarding something I had for sale.
I do mark them spam and delete, but I have to use my computer as my iPad and iPhone don’t give me a spam option. So they sit there and irritate me until I get to my office to do book work.

@KatieInMN Same here, yahoo. On your iPad and iPhone, you might try this: In your inbox, where you can see all the emails (not inside an individual email), swipe left on an email that you want to mark as spam. Then tap More, then scroll down and tap Move to Junk. That way they won't linger until you get back to your computer. 😊

  4. Part of our driveway runs across our neighbor's property (mountain property, driveways are not always easy to install). There's an official legal easement on file with the county that lays out who has what rights in regards to usage, maintenance, repairs, etc. In my experience, you'll probably need to have a boundary survey done, at least on that side of the property, probably not the entire lot, and then get an attorney to write an official document stating who has rights to what (an easement), and then it gets filed with the local jurisdiction. It takes a bit of time but is actually pretty straightforward. In my area this would all probably cost about $1K nowadays.

I think getting in touch ASAP with an attorney who deals with real estate is your best bet.

ETA - And I agree this needs to be taken care of and documented through legal channels, because it very likely will cause issues whenever you/your parents try to sell their property, if not resolved now. We absolutely love our place, but we would have not hesitated to walk away from the purchase if there was not already a legally filed driveway easement.

  5. I took it in my late 20s, after either temporary or limited success with other derm treatments since my early teens. My worst side effect was dry lips - I just carried chapstick in my pocket and reapplied it frequently. I ended up doing two courses of about 6 months each, with about a 6 or 7 month break in between. The first course improved my acne probably about 80% and the second course pretty much eliminated it. My derm said two courses is common, especially in adult women (hormonal acne). I have a family history of depression so I was concerned about that but never had any problems.

My son took it too, ended up with pretty much exactly the same experience as me. He was about 16 when he started, took two courses. Been over two years since he stopped the treatment and has good skin now.

  6. Foothills of Colorado, official wind speed clocked at up to 68 mph in my area. Up on the high peaks it was over 100 mph! We lost power, due to trees falling on the lines, then landline and cell service out also, for about 13 hours, but feel lucky that it's all back on now. Still a lot of homes in our valley without power for going on 30 hours now. Everyone up here is on private wells, so no power means no water too. Fortunately we had some warning so were able to run buckets of water to save for flushing toilets, etc.

I find myself wondering if the fact that the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic doesn’t get much attention in history is for similar reasons.  People were in denial?  Maybe there’s something psychologically about a health crisis that we just need to time out to stay mentally healthy?

I've wondered that too. I have read before that the 1918 pandemic wasn't talked about much afterwards possibly because of severe and widespread survivor's guilt and emotional trauma.

My great-grandfather lost two brothers in 1918 - one to WWI and one to influenza. They were rarely talked about by family members after their deaths. I initially only learned about them due to researching my family history on my own. I thought it was tragic and quite strange that no one passed down memories about them.

I think for dessert I am going to make buckeye bars.   I should make a few batches so we have extra here and I have a bunch to take to my holiday event at school next week.

Would you mind sharing your recipe for buckeye bars? I've found a few online but would rather use one that is tried and true. 😊

  9. You say the wife is uninterested . . . sounds to me like she has no incentive to even get divorced. That's probably why she's uninterested in doing anything to move things along. She's no longer having to live with him and has a new boyfriend AND your dss is paying all her bills and providing childcare when she "needs a break". She's in a sweet spot right now. This needs to be done and over pronto.

I tried 3 Walgreens in AR where my 10 year old nephew is and they aren't doing it yet.  In OK they are.  So that is weird.

It is weird. I'm not far from you, and just got my Moderna booster at Walgreens. The pharmacist who gave it said her location isn't doing Pfizer at all and hasn't ever done Pfizer - only Moderna - so, of course that means they aren't vaxxing kids. She didn't know if that was just her store, this state, or what. It's weird how the same chain varies so much.

  11. OP, has your DH seen an actual urologist?

When I had a kidney stone a few years ago, I was told if I didn't pass it within several days (I think less than a week), I should get the lithotripsy procedure done to break down the stone so I could pass it easily and avoid risking an infection. So I ended up getting the lithotripsy, which was absolutely no big deal, an outpatient procedure. I would totally not have wanted to go on without passing the stone, living in suspense, afraid of the pain (or infection) coming back at any time.

Even with the mask mandate there are exceptions but you can't actually ask people if they have an exception because that would violate HIPPA so anyone who doesn't want to wear one just doesn't and there really isn't any repercussions.

That's actually not true. You can ask people if they have an exception and you would not be in violation of HIPAA. HIPAA applies to a health care provider releasing information about a patient to a third party. It does not apply to personal interactions like you're describing. There's a lot of misinformation out there about HIPAA, but it's actually pretty straightforward.

That said, you can ask, but the person you're asking doesn't have to answer you. But if you ask and they refuse to answer, that tells you something too.

  13. My son is high-risk too. I believe they expect Moderna boosters to be approved by the end of this week, and at the 50 microgram dose, not 100 as the original was. I've read risk of myocarditis seems to decrease after initial dose. Based on that and efficacy data, I would wait for Moderna.
