  1. I have not seen the Lost Tools of Writing. Thank you for this information. It give something else to check on and consider.
  2. Since I have been on this forum in the past couple days trying to find some good options and advice to use to help our high school aged daughter with writing, I have noticed a few homeschooling moms say that they use Brave Writer and really like this. I have never heard of the Brave Writer writing course before. Could any of you who are using this, please, tell me more about this writing course and how it works? Is it really time consuming to prepare for? Is it possible for a high school student to begin with this, etc.? Thank you for all who will be willing to help me out so I can learn the pros and cons of using Brave Writer!
  3. Maybe I just need to find a writing course for homeschoolers with a good writing teacher who our daughter could work with online or something. I think she might respond better to the feedback of another person. She moaned at first about the writing class on essay writing she decided to take through our homeschool co-op this semester, but she had a very helpful and encouraging teacher who really challenged and motivated her for that particular class.
  4. I had never heard of Bravewriter before as a writing course until I got on this forum looking for help for high school writing. I decided to try to find it on the internet, but I would like to hear more about it from some of you homeschoolers who have used it or are still using it. Could you share your experience with this course and tell me how it works? Also, any reviews of it would be helpful for me as well.
  5. Thank you, ladies, for sharing what you use and like for high school writing. I greatly appreciate the information to find where to get the workbook for The Lively Art of Writing, too, Pauline! Sheila
  6. Thank you for the reply! I was able to get on the Yahoo Lively Art of Writing group and download the workbook and answer key! I greatly appreciate the hard work you ladies put into this and shared so generously with the rest of us!
  7. Beachnut, where did you find the workbook for The Living Art of Writing?
  8. This is to Still Waters: Do you still have the workbook you created for The Lively Art of Writing? I would love to have a copy of this. Would that be possible? Thank you!
  9. I am having so much trouble finding a writing course our teen daughter does not get frustrated with and can actually learn well from. I have seen a lot of recommendations for The Lively Art of Writing and would like some comments on this. Also, I have seen that Still Waters who posts on this site has a workbook she made to go with this writing book. Can anyone tell me how I can contact Still Waters and get this workbook? I have tried using IEW's writing materials with our daughter and she does not like them. I have also tried using Jensen's Format Writing and she is not doing so well with that. She has an awful time trying to find a topic she thinks she can write on for the assignments. But I am really interested in learning how to get the workbook created by this homeschooling mother for The Lively Art of Writing. Thank you!
  10. I am having a very difficult time this year finding really good and very interesting high school level U.S. history resources/curriculum (such as a wonderful spine book/literary U.S. book to use along with good biographies and literature) for a daughter who is of average abilities. I have had Paul Johnson's book A History of the American People as well as Peter Marshall's The Light and the Glory series, and Notgrass's Exploring America suggested to me, but I have questions about all these and wonder if there is even a better suggestion for us to use. We started Paul Johnson's U.S. history book and as we began it seemed confusing to her and lost her interest in the first chapter. Does this get better after the first chapter for those who have read it. Peter Marshall's series does not cover U.S History beyond the Civil War period, and since I have not read this myself either I do not know about the quality of this. Will Notgrass's high school U.S. history just be a boring text book to our daughter. She is a difficult student to find material for that she does not think is boring, and I really want to help her enjoy learning history, yet to be challenged but not so advanced that I lose her either. Can anyone help me? Our older children used Carson's U.S. history volumes for high school and really liked these, but I know our daughter will find those too dry for her. I need to find something really good and interesting as soon as possible. I just recently read a little bit about William Bennett's history series, but not having ever seen these I do not know who good these books will be presenting a really good Christian worldview like Francis Schaeffer's book How Should We Then Live? does. I would really appreciate help! Thank you!
