  1. My DD had a small benign tumor called an osteo osteoma. Pain is the primary symptom and the pain is very responsive to nsaids like Advil.

(This is when we found out she is allergic to motrin/nsaids but that is another story) They are very rare, more likely in boys in their second decade of life. It was quite unusual for my DD to have one.  MRI will see it.  She did have a marked temperature difference from the other leg and tenderness. It was in her fibula. They do not get bigger than 2cm but 2cm is big in a kid's bones.

Once we knew what it was the treatment was it was relatively simple. Radio frequency ablation was performed. Within a week she was feeling just about back to normal. She has a small dot on her leg.

I hope and pray that you get an answer soon.  Here is a link I found helpful.  They most often happen in the legs abut can happen anywhere in the body

  2. Actually, the websites that stream tv shows and movies (you know, aside from Hulu and Netflix and the various pay sites) are usually illegal, including the one above.  The only difference between that and downloading it from a torrent website is that streaming it won't get you an angry letter from your internet service provider.

I'm not judging- I've gotten my share of angry letters- but people should know ahead of time so they can make an informed decision. ;)

Huh good to know. The person that sent it to me said it was legal because it was a BBC sponsored site.  Shoulda know better. :(

  3. Yes, uterine rupture is a big deal but I believe that what ktgrok meant is that those of us that end up feeling misled, betrayed and pressured by the very medical system that we trusted, feel that our valid feelings of grief in losing our envisioned birth have been pushed aside too often by the comment of well meaning people that say to us, " Oh well at least you got a healthy baby out of it. No big deal." But considering there are many emotions, desires and hormone involved in birth it is a big deal.

I am not talking about a truly medically needed intervention but things done for convenience of Dr's, CYA or without informed and unpressured consent of the mother.

To the OP....I had an 3 day induction that ended in a C/S with DD1. With DD2 I was given the option to try to VBAC but due to the fact I have chronic HBP and was on meds they did not me to go past 1 week over. I did go 1 week over and my "gut" told me to schedule. It turned out she had a short cord and it was wrapped around her neck twice. She would have died.  I am a big believer in listening to your instinct.

I am currently 18 weeks with child #3 (find out next week B or G) and I have a complete placenta previa so I have no choice but to schedule. Our insurance( Kaiser Permanente) does not allow VBAC2C. So I would have had to pay out of pocket and find a midwife that is willing. A hard find even out here in crunchy granola Northern California

    Prayer for your decision making.

  4. I stopped wearing a watch when I was pregnant with my first. If I put on a watch it just stopped. Dead would not work.  So I got out of the habit. Tried to wear a watch with pregnancy #2 and the same thing happened. The watch would not work. So I am not going to bother with this one.

  5. I get my Joann's card every year at the store's customer service desk. You just have to show a teacher's id. I use my HSLDA card and my local homeschool group issues homeschool teacher's cards (or you can make your own).

Funny, our Joann's won't do that. Strange the little differnces.

  6. In our town, Office Max gave me a teacher Rewards card as a home schooler. We've used the home schooler discount for Apple computers. Jo Ann Fabrics will not give me a discount--school teachers only (at least in our town).

Joann's teacher rewards card come from the national headquarters. You sign up online. The local stores have no say.

    Here is the link.

  7. I would have her pay for the parts and have Dad teach her how to fix it. Then I would buy the Lego set she was saving towards for Christmas. This maintains the lesson about leaving it ont he floor and she gets the self -respect of earning (by her responsible behavior of owning her mistake)  her special want.

  8. We have a almost 3 year old Boxer and he has "eye boogers" almost everyday. Breeder and Vet were unconcerned. They do not bother him nor are his eyes red or itchy.

It may be just a quirk of my breed. However if they started happening suddenly but was not bothering him then I would be watchful in case it progressed into somthing more serious.

  9. Both my DD got my hubby's toenails. They are all prone to ingrown toenails. Our Ped suggested water and epsom salt soak with as hot a water as they could stand two to three times a day. Now this was not for a severely infected toe this was for the obvious ingrowing, slightly red irritated nail.

Luckly for us since my hubby was familiar with them h knew what is was before they got really bad.

  10. Thanks, Jenn!!

I've never cooked a standing rib roast. Is that what prime rib is?

Prime rib is what thay call in in restaurants whne you get a slab of it. The roast it comes off of is called, at least on the west coast, a standing rib roast. Since you are not feeding a large group you can probably get the butcher to cut you one with two to four ribs, which when cut after roasting, will give you three-four, cuts of "prime rib" like you are used to seeing.

I season lightly. The meat is usually really good. Salt, pepper olive oil.

  11. I've always loved holidays with my extended family. We always get together for Thanksgiving and Christmas and even though we've all got our weirdnesses and issues, we somehow managed to make the holidays work.  That's not to say there weren't stressful or uncomfortable moments, 'cause there have been many. And, part of the fun of getting everyone together is rehashing some of the craziest moments.  And it's made for some very memorable moments for dd (both good and bad).

But, I'm not looking forward to the holidays this year. My dd is in college and living 2 hours away. My mom died a few days before Thanksgiving last year. I have to work on Thanksgiving so dd took a dog sitting job for that whole weekend, so I probably won't see her until xmas. The rest of my family decided to get together at a sister's house which is too far for me to go on Thanksgiving. I'm also feeling overwhelmed at the loss of my mom right now. You'd think that after almost a year I'd be over it. Anyway, Thanksgiving is just going to be dh and me and I know I'm not going to feel like cooking a big turkey dinner for just the two of us. Actually after working all day, I'm not going to feel like cooking at all. And, since I have to eat lchf, I can't eat a turkey dinner anyway. I'm considering cooking a prime rib - please tell me that's easy to do.

I'm hoping that we'll have our normal, dysfunctional xmas, though.

    Big venting whine over...

I am so sorry for your loss. Don't feel you have to be over it! We all grieve in our own time.  :grouphug:  :grouphug:  :grouphug:

P.S. Prime rib is not any harder than a turkey if you cook the standing rib roast.  It can be  on the pricey side though.  I have cooked it for my FIL. He had bypass surgery and eats turkey all year. On special occasions he want red meat.

  12. I lived in England twice as a child. The first time I was very young 3-5. We lived in Suffolk. I only really remember the rod and gun club. LOL

Around middle school age I lived in Oxfordshire in between Chipping Norton and Banbury.  I supposed that my transition was easier becasue I had a stepmother, stepbrother and stepsister that were English.

We had a proper washer and dryer. No garbage disposal but it was 1985-89 and it was an old house.  Loved the woodstove with a kettle on top to humidify the air ( my frist exposure to this)

I loved it. I loved being able to wander the feilds. The children on the other hand were wretched but that is not, I think, an English thing. ;)

Just that those children were not very nice to anything different from them.

The grand buildings, palaces, castles and grounds. I loved it!!  Being so close to so many other countries to visit.  Chocolate Digestive bisciuts and tea, real mint sauce (NOT Jelly) and lamb on a Sunday. Yorkshire pudding and roast potaotes, sausage and chips(I do not like fish), I could go on and on. I disagree with the concept that British food is boring and boiled.

I am sure there were things that I did not like but I cannot remember everything.  Oh I remember one thing I did not like....the sweet popcorn at the movies. :)

It has been 28 years and I am sure that I am romanticizing it some in my mind and this is all fromt he perspective of a child that did not have finacial worries on her horizion.  I would love, someday,  to bring my family to the places I frequented.

  13. It is so sad that Sears has deteriorated to badly. In college my hubby worked for the local Sears repair center as tech and delivery driver. I can tell you they were good, fast and almost always had the part in stock. They worked on appliances, tractors and had a separate vacuum shop.

Sears has really gone down hill since K-mart bought them. They no longer have in house repair techs. They are all independent contractors with very little incentive to give good customer service.

I hope that you get your issue resolved Jean.

  14. My Hannah sings with the Santa Rosa Children's chorus. They went to Disneyland in March to sing. She is a soprano. They have 3 levels. Training, Intermediate and Concert. The children move up as they improve and/or mature. Hannah is in the Concert group.

They sing in French, Latin, Hebrew, German etc.

They also sang at the opening of the Sonoma State University's 40 million dollar music center.

She has been in the Chorus for almost two years. She loves that they are learning to sight sing and music theory. They hope to travel to europe in the next few years.

They do two parent performances a year but do many perfomances for local wineries, professional asociations, and businesses in the Fall and Christmas season to generate income in order to keep tuition down.

We also have just upgraded our uniforms. The old ones were laura ashley prints from the 80's. The new ones are purple and beautiful.
