  1. I understand your frustrations. My daughter's name is Shannon, but spelled with only 1 "n" in the middle. It's a perfectly acceptable spelling listed in baby books, but it's not the spelling that most people think of. Personally, I make a point to spell names correctly. Kelly with an i, Shelly with an ie. If there name is different, I spell it different. It doesn't seem hard to me and shows them that I care. Unfortunately, everyone doesn't feel that way. :)

  2. Hormones, stress, worrying, lack of sleep, caffeine, sugar, ...list goes on. I think they can be caused by many things. My cardiologist said they weren't a concern, but they can be very worrisome. Some people have hundreds a day. I usually don't have more than a couple per week now, but I was getting more some years back. He also suggested eating more bananas (potassium). I find that relaxing with water helps me.

  3. We are starting a local homeschool group and need help thinking of a good name. It's an inclusive group and we don't want to use the name of the area because we are from different cities and counties in the state. But we are all from Ohio. The group will offer some general homeschool support, but will mainly serve to allow us to get together for parties, game nights, clubs and other fun activities. The mission may or may not evolve into something else as it grows.

One of the first things we've set up is a bowling club. So we also need a name for that. We had Pin Pals, but decided against it once we realized it was heavily used by The Simpsons.

So, I need two names. One for the main group, and one for the name of the kids' bowling club. (preschool-teens)

    Any ideas?

  4. I continue to think squat toilets are the best for toilet training. No worries about size or aiming. I feel like I should sing a squat toilet song!

I never understand why these threads get so controversial. What's next, bathing vs. showering? Boxers vs. briefs? Underwire vs. camisole? I say, close the bathroom door on other people's houses!

I wasn't going to comment because I didn't want anyone picking apart my response, but oh boy do I agree. Every family does things differently. As homeschoolers we should understand that. Beauty in the differences. :001_smile:

  5. Well, lesbian isn't a curse word. When my son didn't know any swear words he knew what a lesbian is.

My now 12 year old does the BEEEP thing also. I find it hilarious. He learned it from his friend. The 7 year old has picked it up and has no idea what it really means. I think the 7 year old thinks it means yay, or wow, or something. I announced dinner was finally ready and he yelled out BEEP!

I know it's not a curse word, I just meant that the conversation got around to topics that they might not discuss in front of adults, and if my kids had not told me, I never would have known.

  6. In regards to not knowing bad words, etc...Those were my kids. Then we moved and they went out to meet new friends (Right outside -- about 100 feet). They always come back and tell me everything that happens (I love this). A 7 year old told them what a lesbian was, an 11 year old taught them at least 3 new curse words. I asked them what they did about the cursing 11 year old. They told her it wasn't nice to use that language and that some people might be offended. So the 11 year old started to censor herself by replacing the curse words with BLEEPS. LOL!

  7. Without question? No. I would question, or else, how can I know each side of the story. My kids aren't perfect, so there is always the chance. I also don't let my kids out of eyesight until they are around 10, and even then, they have to go all together (3 older kids). One of them will always tell on the other and I'm more likely to get the truth about what they did or what someone else did.

  8. It sounds like there was poor communication by both parties, and neither person in the exchange was especially considerate of the other person.

:iagree: I think if you want grace for your flub you should extend it to her as well. I know it stinks but I think the fault lies with both of you.

This is what I was thinking. If I was a seller and I'd waited a week on a payment, then heard from the buyer that they hadn't even posted the darn thing yet ... well, I wouldn't be too happy. The seller may not have sold the book at all, but she considers the experience a bad one already and doesn't want to continue the transaction. Or maybe she just decided to keep the book.

    :iagree:

  9. This happened to my 14 year old when she was 11. She started getting tunnel vision, light flashes, dizziness...and got the same diagnoses. 6 months later she had focal seizures in 1 arm. After many tests, they found that the seizures were not originating in the brain, and were more likely stress-related. A month after that, she started her menses. I started to think it was hormone related. She hasn't had the dizziness or focal seizures since then.
