  1. and their lifestyle. Having never cared whether they have 1 kid or 19, I do now have some thoughts. They need to put in some raised garden beds. They should stop buying jarred sauce and bagged iceberg lettuce. ;) They should also ditch the paper plates and cups. Did they not put in an industrial washing machine in with that kitchen? They could run it once a day. They should each have their own labled water bottles.

I also think the little ones would enjoy chickens and fetching eggs from nest boxes.

    I hope you're all happy now. ;)

I am a Duggar fan, and I agree those are all great ideas. The garden alone would be a great homeschool/family activity.

  2. Well..just when I thought I had it figured out :001_huh:

I really am trying to simplify my life a bit w/ school, have 4 I am "teaching".

I had thought TOG would be good, then I realized what I am really wanting a curriculum to walk me through geography, history, great readers etc..but I really want it all laid out. I don't like, "have them learn these continents this week", without a worksheet or something that tells us "how" to do this.

With 7 children, I am really wanting something easier on my brain. I tend to not do real well with stuff like that...does this mean TOG is out..ha?

Oh...boy....I am focusing this year on reading, writing, arithmetic with my youngers, spelling w/ my olders and Language arts skills getting caught up so the other needs to be sort of "light" or it won't get done...does this make sense?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Kim

I haven't read the responses yet, so forgive me if this has been said. TOG does give you the assignments for geography, but you have to buy Map Aids. Writing Aids is only $50 and you have all the instruction needed for 12 years of schooling.

TOG can be as light or as heavy as you need it to be. I think with 7 kids you could save a lot of time with TOG having them work together.

Not TOG, but for spelling you could do Spelling Power and use colored tabs/flags to mark the pages for each child and have a "group" spelling time.

  3. I think it is totally worth it. WDW is not just an amusement park, it is several of them and then some. The only thing I did not like was the restaurant on the river boat at Downtown Disney. Service was terrible and it was overpriced.

Go when the weather is warm though, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are on the "must do" list.

Edited to add: September is a good time - peak season is over and it is still warm.

  4. I get grilled by a ps teacher everytime we go to my son's cub scouts pack meetings. She asked me, "How do homeschooled kids learn to write?" I mentioned copywork and she went off. She said that would NOT be allowed in public school, because it is a copyright infringement.

So, there's an answer according to this lady!

  5. I like the Teacher Created Resources Literature Guides for fun activities. I prefer Progeny Press for deep thinking, writing and analysis. Also, PP covers literary terms very well.

A twist on lit studies would be using movies. I recently reviewed Z-Guides to the Movies from Zeezok Publishing. They are lit guides to go with movies. I think it would be fun to do a movie and the movie guide after reading the book.

  6. LOL- here we go. She is almost as hated as the Duggars. I like her and I don't care if she has a staff. If I could afford it, I'd have a staff - to do cooking (which I hate), cleaning (which I hate), laundry (which I hate) - so I could do the stuff I enjoy -like homeschooling and doing projects around the house. More power to her! I am off to put her cookbook on my Amazon wish list.
