  1. I wanted to start a thread like this about my most recent grump, but wasn't sure if I should. So, glad you did 🙂 My most recent grump is how all of the movie streaming services, and now even Spotify have all gone to automatically playing previews of shows/movies/songs as I'm scrolling. I do not want to have previews playing, and I'm way too lazy to mute and unmute the tv or phone every time.

The other one is about the text reply suggestions. I do like them, but sometimes they will pop up as I'm about to click on something else, and it will send a reply that I hadn't intended to send. Then I have to send another reply that says "Accidental Reply" which probably makes me look stupid to the other person. Those reply suggestions can be really useful when they don't pop up at the wrong time.

Adding a picture of my cat who was having a bad day and decided to block out the rest of the house.

As predicted she is moving in with him.  Her broken car is sitting at her apartment currently so he needs help from Dh to get it moved to a repair shop.  Soon I guess because surprise surprise she is being evicted from her apartment.

I thought you were about to say she was pregnant. I'm sorry this is such a mess. I understand wanting a stable environment for your child, but I wouldn't not be taking this woman back.

  3. I've been trying to do this because at 47 my digestive system doesn't seem to work as well as it used to, and I've been going to bed early. I eat breakfast around 6am or earlier so my appetite is fine for a larger noon meal and a smaller dinner.

If you stay up late you could even do a small dinner and a later snack if you're hungry, or a small snack and a later dinner.

  4. I was on the couch with two of my dogs today giving them snuggles and kisses. One dog was on his back with his face up towards the ceiling. My ear bud fell out of my ear and into his mouth. I didn't realize it at first and was looking on the couch. Looked at the dog and saw him chewing weird, like he was trying to get something out of his mouth. I helped sweep it out, and all is good. My ear bud was in one piece so I know nothing was left in his mouth.

    Just another perspective for you:

I initiate 'doing things' less than my friends do with me, even though I am always happy to do thing they suggest.

The reason why has nothing to do with me not wanting to spend time with them - it's a complex fear of rejection coupled with not wanting to burden them with any requests.  I want to spare them saying 'no', for themselves, but also for me.

I'm not saying this is functional - I'm definitely trying to change it - but lop-sided initiation of activities doesn't always reflect lack of care/interest in the other person.

Oh my gosh, there are other people like me. Yes 100 times to the bolded!

As you know from your training, and perhaps from personal experience, situational awareness is an important safety tool. I would have expected her to reply with something indicated that she had a reason for leaving it (most likely a physical need), but it feels more like she is a provocateur.  I think you handled her well

I think the other lady was embarrassed about having been called out and went on the defense.  She probably didn't think about how leaving the bag would look and felt attacked, and attacked back. Not saying her reaction was correct... Just thinking about how I might feel if called out (or felt I had been called out) for this action.

  8. I would probably have never noticed it in the first place, because I'm about as observant as a rock. If I did notice it, I'm not sure what I would do. At first I thought I'd let security know, but really, probably not. My small town Mid-Western upbringing would  not make me suspect anything other than someone left it there so they didn't need to carry it around. Then again, if I did notify someone it would be because I figured someone forgot it. So, not sure I'd notify security, but maybe just an employee hanging around.

So, don't count on checking online giving you correct information.  Now we will see when I actually receive it.

When I checked mine to kept saying "In Process" then after 10 weeks it says it was mailed. I looked again for fun and it said it was approved and was going to be printed. I think that was the day I got my passport. Their messages get a bit mixed up ☺️

Can you do this if you've already submitted for one?

If you have travel plans already and it gets to the 2 week mark, absolutely. If you don't have plans and just want your passport faster, don't do it. You often have to travel to a Passport Agency to do this, and there might not be an appointment near where you live. We have a family that figured out their kids' passports were expired and are traveling for Spring Break to Italy. They had to wait a week to even call to get an emergency appointment. And, the only appointments were in TX and CO, we are in IA. And, I think that was even with the senator's office help.

How do I track her application? No one answers that phone number posted upthread.

I just looked back at your post. There are 2 things. To track online go to the State Department website and there is a passport tracking area. It is helpful, but not always updated. It will tell you when they received it which can help you figure out how long it will take.

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/need-passport/status.html

You said you sent it in mid-December, so I would say it could be early March when you get it. The holidays were a bad time for quick mail so it could have taken extra time to get there. Processing is taking up to 11 weeks so it might be March.

Sorry, misread the quoted post, ended up making a new post with the answer  instead of editing this one. My brain is on a beach somewhere while my body is still in Iowa 😂

Ugh, this makes me so nervous! We just submitted our applications for new passports last week. We're traveling the 2nd week of May. We did pay for expedited processing and delivery, so hopefully they'll be here in plenty of time. The lady at the post office said we didn't need the expedited service, they were processing in 3-5 weeks, but I didn't feel comfortable with that. The State Department website said 5-7 weeks which really cuts it close.

Oh man, glad you paid for expedited processing. We process applications at our library, and we are saying end of April for expedited and end of May for regular processing. The State Dept is saying 5 - 7 weeks for expedited and 8-11 weeks for regular.

Dd’s application went in mid-December and no passport yet. SE region, so the New Orleans office.

Unfortunately, they do sometimes end up in other processing centers for some odd reason. We keep track of the applications we send, and they will sometimes end up in other states than the ones that we send to which are TX and PA. And, when we call to ask why this happens they tell us not to question it.

I do hope everyone's passports come in on time. I get so stressed sending in applications! My own took the full 11 weeks to get processed, as did my daughter's. My son's actually took far less time. Half the time it really makes no sense.

  14. I have lived in S. Illinois and Central Iowa. I pronounce it both ways: milk (silk) and melk. I also do this with other words.  Maybe, because I learned to read and speak in S. Illinois, but have lived most of my life in Central Iowa. There is a definite pronunciation difference between the two areas.

I think there's a big difference between medical benefits changing, and being promised you won't see combat, and then instead being sent to kill and possibly be killed. Or signing up for 4 years and being made to stay for 8.

Anyone who believes they won't see combat shouldn't go into the military. I told my son before he enlisted that I NEVER wanted him to come to me and say, "But I never thought I'd be deployed into combat." You enlist in the military and you had better assume you will see combat.

I do think that making sure you know that not everything they promise will come true is good advice. We told our son that over and over.
