  1. Hi,

I would appreciate it if you all could give me your recommendations for 8th grade science. I prefer old earth creation, or young earth that doesn't push young earth as the one and only true way. Does that make sense? :001_huh:

I have been using Abeka and just read on here today that it is young earth. I guess I didn't realize that. If anyone is familiar with the young earth aspect of Abeka, can you please advise me on how much it permeates the middle school science curriculum.

We are actually only on chapter 3 of Abeka science 7, because we switched mid year.

Thanks for anyone who actually read through this long and convoluted post. I eagerly await your wisdom.:lurk5:

  2. I am not deaf, but if you were at my church, I would have learned to sign to communicate with you. Have you approached your pastor or Sunday school teacher to ask if perhaps you could teach a signing class? Or maybe just to let him know that you're feeling a bit ostracized. In my opinion, that's the kind of thing that a pastor should know about.

You said you had invited people over during the time you've gone to church there. Before you decide to leave, please spend some time in thoughtful prayer. It may be that God has placed you there to reach out to people and show them how to conquer their fears(?) of people with differences. You may have to be more proactive than you have in the past.

I'm probably saying this all wrong, and if so, I apologize. I do know the feeling of being "left out" in church, where you should never feel out of place. I hope that God gives you an answer soon.

  3. I had a hard time sitting through that movie because the violence was so upsetting. I don't have a problem with the message or the history, it was just hard to see how horrible humans can be to each other. I can't imagine making small children watch it. I would be throwing a major fit!

  4. I have this book. My daughter is doing Lightning Lit, which does have a little grammar in it, but no actual instruction. So I pick out the section in PG that will go along with her LL lesson, and have her read and complete it with LL. I hope that sentence made sense. :)

  5. We've been using it this year and my daughter is enjoying it immensely. She is in 7th grade. She likes the cutting and pasting because it breaks up the monotony a bit. I discovered it on Rainbow Resource. I believe I saw sample pages there.

  6. When they call and I say, "We're doing school" I get looks of disbelief followed by, "Don't they get a break?". To which I sweetly reply, "We took a week off for Disneyworld a couple of weeks ago when there were no lines." Disbelief turns to envy. Oh, and my boys are still available to play starting at noon, since we can easily finish by then. Your school gets out at, what, 3:15?

  7. Congratulations! Both on having a very bright child and on being such a great mom.

Trust me when I say, if you put her in ps now, she will most definitely go backward. That is what happened with my older dd and I've been fighting the results for five years!

Good luck on your homeschool journey!

  8. My dd (soon to be 8) loves to be outside also. She has discovered a fascination with birds and has asked for binoculars for her upcoming birthday. She also wants a telescope (hello? Grandpa?)!

She begs to go to the playground every day. We went to the mall yesterday afternoon (which we do about once every two or three months) and she was mad because she would rather have gone to the playground.

  9. I don't know if you're looking for "designer" jeans or just plain old jeans but......we had good luck in the lady's department at Wal Mart. We bought the petites so they're not too long and they fit my dd very well. She is exactly the way you describe your dd. Poor kid, as if she didn't have very muscular legs anyway, all the jeans seem to be low-rise and she will not wear them. Not that I'd let her, but she just hates how they feel.

    Good luck!
