  1. Booger eating. NASTY!

Hubby and I know several families whose kids we routinely see with their arms halfway up their noses. When the excavation is complete, they eat it.

And these kids do it constantly, even right in front of their parents. Which makes me think many/most parents think this is no big deal.

I asked my kids (3 teens and 2 younger ones) if they had ever done this. I told them they could be completely honest and it would be no big deal. They were all mortified at the thought.

Yes, they've picked their noses without Kleenex, but they all said they'd never even think about eating it.

    Are we just wierd?

No, you are not weird! It makes my stomach turn just reading this thread...Thankfully none of mine did that (at least that I ever saw).

  2. I love Pink Quartz Minerals makeup. She's on etsy and has her own website too. Her makeup is the best and the only kind I have ever used that I will ever use again. Seriously, I'd otherwise do completely without. It feels wonderful, nothing compares. You can ask questions to her directly on etsy, though you have to have an account I believe. She only uses 7 ingredients in ALL of her products (not that all of her products have all 7)-Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxide, Tin Dioxide, Ultramarine Blue, Kaolin Clay. Foundations contain Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxide, Kaolin Clay, Ultramarine Blue.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just ordered from her.

  3. We have not paid for anything and were able to get to addition yesterday. We were doing multiplication in the past. Yesterday went to http://www.bigbrainz.com/ Chose downloads (home-use) from the top. At the bottom in tiny print chose free/ full on-line version. Then if I recall it loaded some stuff. I at some point had to enter an email and I think a user name or something like that. we then set-up children and then chose game - which gave us the option of all 4 operations. I know if took about 10 minutes to load - may just be my PC.

Best of luck - let us know if it works.

This didn't work for me. I really want to get it, and I can't figure out what I could be doing wrong!

  4. I drove myself crazy (and spent so much time) trying to separate categories. I finally just decided to figure out how much money we had to spend each month on *everything* (food, clothes, gifts, etc.). I subtracted our monthly set bills from our income, determined how much we had left to spend (after savings), and then had the amount. I decided really, I don't care where it is going! As long as I don't overspend it's good for us. I also try to withdraw that amount of cash from the bank. It makes it much easier to monitor how much we're spending.

  5. I don't make them as gifts, but I do make a ton for Christmas Eve. I have frozen them, both pre-cooked and not, in the past. If I was going to give them as gifts, I would cook them and then freeze them. That way the recipients can just steam them for about 15 minutes or so to re-heat them when they are ready to eat them.

  6. I recently watched Forks Over Knives which promotes a plant-based, whole foods diet.

Naturally, the film focuses on the benefits of a vegan diet; there seem to be plenty of benefits. The people in the film had terrific health improvements when they cut out meat and dairy. No drawbacks are mentioned.

So, I wonder what the folks on this forum have to say about veganism. Why not be a vegan?

I also watched this movie, after I read the book "The China Study". I've been eating a plant-based diet since then (about a month and a half or so). I hesitate to call myself "vegan", however. While at home, we eat vegan. If I'm out, I do the best I can and figure what I miss falls into the "5% animal protein" category. I feel great. If you haven't read the book, I'd recommend it. I thought it was a lot more convincing then just the documentary.

  7. I haven't started using mint.com yet, but I have two IRL friends who are using it. It's working well for them. I wondered about the safety/security of using it, but my friend's husband is a computer guy and so I figure if he's using it it must be pretty safe. I just haven't gotten around to setting it up yet. It seems like an easy way to manage your money.
