Thank you, Kendall! My dd was in private school, where she had earth science (6), life science (7) and physical science (8). Of course, we pulled her out at the end of fall 2011. When we took her out (mostly because English and History weren't rising to our standards), I didn't feel I was prepared to teach Physical Science and wanted her to continue on the path of a classroom setting (at that time; seems like centuries ago). I wasn't aware of all of the online resources. So I enrolled her with tutors at the local homeschool group. The tutors teach in a classroom setting. As well, my dd thrives with other students; otherwise, she is very shy.
Long story short, the science class focused more on earth science. That's because in GA, the brick-and-mortar schools begin 9th grade with Physical Science, unless the student has had it (usually in private or homeschool) in the 8th grade and can carry it over. I was torn about beginning her with Biology since she didn't quite finish Physical Science. I would love to find a summer curriculum to review Physical Science and labs with her so we can raise her to a full credit. It does seem a shame to start over and she reminds me of that. :) Now that I am writing this and seeing your comments, I am realizing that it's really up to us. You all will have to work with me on this journey. I admire all of you. Just by asking me some tough questions, you've helped me to think this through more. BTW, I work in higher ed and still get the 'are you sure you know what you're doing?" look from our extended family.
