  1. It's shocking, disgusting, and heartbreaking. And once you know about it, you can never un-know it. :grouphug:

    :iagree:

When we were transferred to Sicily, DH and I had to take an awareness class on human trafficking. Apparently Sicily is a big stopping ground for traffickers between Africa and Europe. That class literally made me sick to my stomach. I think for me, the hardest part was learning how prominent it is here in the United States - and it doesn't ever seemed to be talked about. Ever. It honestly makes me wonder whose pockets are being lined. Especially given the amount of publicity against smoking, illegal drugs, etc.

  2. I don't often post in this forum because my children are really in high school. But, my youngest has issues in Math so he's a bit behind. He also has ADHD which comes into play.

I'm looking for a Math program that compares with BJU 7th fundamentals. I like the layout of the book and the teaching style, but the religion aspect is not what we are looking for in a Math program.

He does much better if I am teaching him the Math so an independent program is out of the question. We tried Singapore but because he went to PS until 4th grade it really confused him and just made him even more frustrated.

We are currently using Math Mammoth to get him caught up to 7th grade and expect to be finished by Christmas break or a little before. I know I have time before we need it but that's why I wanted to ask for suggestions now so I can research and try and find it used. :D

    Thanks for your help!

  3. Really? The only two countries I would not drive in were Italy and Egypt. I looooved driving in Germany.

    :lol::lol::lol:

When we were stationed in Sicily I was informed that stop lights were decorations put there for Americans and stop signs were merely to mark the corners! When we went to visit my cousin in Germany it was a whole different experience. We stopped at a traffic light and I actually asked, "People actually stop for traffic lights here?" She chuckled and said of course. Then a couple days later we went to Rome for a few days and she said, "Now I know why you asked!"

  4. The boys are up at Camp Grandma's for a couple of weeks and last week I just spent time reading, with hubby and arguing with housing. This week I'm supposed to be doing lesson planning.

Well, so far today I've done nada when it comes to the planning. I've washed 5 blankets (the ones that are used in the living room because I have hot flashes and DH says we live in a deep freeze now), went to Dairy Queen and met a fellow homeschooler who was buying some books off of me. Of course while I was at Dairy Queen I just HAD to buy a small pineapple Sundae that I had to eat at one of the outside umbrella tables because it's only 80 degrees outside. I tried to close my eyes and pretend I was communing with nature but the horns from the traffic kind of blew that for me. Then I came home and of course had to check Facebook, write some replies, like a few pics, etc. I even played some Bingo on FB and then I HAD to come here to see what's up.

Now that I've done that I guess I should go work on my lesson planning. Oh, wait. It's time to start dinner. Guess the lesson plans will have to wait!

  5. Don't degrade their beliefs just because you believe differently.

Don't treat your other child's children better than you treat theirs.

Don't question the parentage of any children they may have.

Don't tell your DIL at the wedding reception that "he may occasionally smack you and it's your job to turn the other cheek."

Do NOT ask your DIL to hold the laptop and stay off camera so you can Skype with your son (her husband) who has been deployed for 15 months.

  6. you're naked and wearing the paper gown that you realize you missed a good six inch strip while shaving your legs?

On another note, the nurse told me that the gown was to open in the front so the Doc could "examinate" my b00ks. I didn't know if I should laugh or prepare to defend my b00ks from harm. ;)

  7. Just as a warning to others, I googled the terms and went to wikipedia. They show FULL pictures of the piercings so don't open with little kids around. :D Or big kids either. I choked on my sweet tea. :tongue_smilie:

Nance, blast him next time. Seriously. Just because a kid can use grown up terms regarding piercings and tattoos doesn't mean that a grown up can use grown up topics when talking to kids. That was completely inappropriate and creepy to boot. I'm sorry it happened. :(

    :iagree:

And, I really, really wish I'd have read this before I Googled. There's just not enough brain bleach in the world...

  8. I am still myself. No need for the coy little name-switch tricks for me. I'm not that into the covert operations of the board anyway. :tongue_smilie:

Ooooh...are there special forces on the board? Are they called the Well-Trained Forces (although the acronym for that one might cause trouble)? Homeschool Ninjas? *Cue the Mission Impossible theme song*

  9. I have a great suggestion, that you take me along with you!

Italy in September sounds wonderful! Enjoy!:)

    :iagree: :D

On a more realistic note, if you have the time, take the overnight ferry from Naples to Catania, Sicily and spend a couple of days touring the island. While in Catania, visit a pizzeria and have an Arancini for me. :drool5: On the island of Sicily, there's also Taormina (one of the more famous touristy spots), Palermo, Caltegirone (most beautiful handmade ceramics), Siracusa - which has a little Papyrus Museum that has a replica of the Rosetta Stone, and then there's my most favorite, favorite place in the whole world - Agrigento! Roman temples everywhere on the top of a hillside that overlooks the Mediterranean. :001_wub:

  10. No, your account is a personal account. The question here is not over accounts but payment. When you click to send money on paypal, you choose whether you are buying something, or just sending someone money without goods involved (which is the "personal" button). It doesn't matter that you have a "personal" account.

Thank you for clarifying that for me. I always just told people to pay through PayPal never specifying which option. Now I know to be more specific. Thanks! :001_smile:
