  1. There are different size looms-- not patterns/sock sizes but size of looms for size of yarn-- some sock looms use 'regular' weight yearn and some use the fine weight-- look up the one you have on YouTube-- you will find out the type of yarn that works best plus get free lessons!

(I do lots of loom knitting)

  2. Just got home a few minutes ago-- LONG WEEKEND but so much fun!

I met up with dd (21) in Colorado then we flew out to LA early Friday morning-- we dropped bags off at hotel then walked to convention center (about 3 blocks).  We had to wait about 45 minutes to get inside but got in just as dd's friends were auditioning for the 'Dream Stage'-- 4 of them made it on Friday!  After that we did a quick spot check around convention and went back to hotel for a nap-- (having had only 1 hour of sleep the night before due travel).  The concert arena was about a block away from hotel--we had awesome seats all three days-- row 14 most days and just a few rows above that on Friday.   The BASE was very very strong-- you could not hear the girl groups vocals at all on Friday-- but it was much better on Saturday and Sunday (new sound system in arena). 15000 steps.

Saturday we were up early and had about an hour of line time to get into convention-- we watched some of the Dream Stage dance competition then walked around- walking and standing as practically no place to sit!  DD decided to go to the outdoor area to try to get a good spot for the Ateez convention stage time-- so we split up as I was already at 10000 steps and it was not lunch time yet!  DD was able to eat at an outside vendor booth then scored 2nd row (crowd) very close to center and got video of Mingi interacting with her-- staring her down and making her do the 'barks' (if you know KPOP and Ateez you will know about the barking...)  He also gave her a thumbs up when they started yet another round of Bouncy and she danced along... other members gave her waves and completed her hearts... so her day was made!!

Now for me-- This old lady was way out of her comfort zone-- dd had just abandoned me with thousands of K-fans and I was like a deer in headlights...  I do know K-Dramas so I walked over to the Viki booth--- there was a LONG line around the booth and I was curious to know what it was for  (I'm not a fan of standing in line unless I know what it is for...).  I walked around to the other side just to see a partition-- I was facing booth trying to figure out what I was going to actually do when one of the workers motioned for me to come over-- she then gave me a push into the partitioned area and before I could react I felt an arm around me!  I nervously looked up to see who would so something to poor old me and ended up looking into the eyes of a VERY nice looking man in his early 30's... He asked me if I was enjoying the convention and what my favorite exhibit was and before I got my bearings cameras started going off then I got another hug and was escorted away.  A worker told me to come around to the other side to get a print of my photo.   Still in shock (seriously I was) I decided to suck it up a bravely asked someone who was standing in the long line who the guy was---they LAUGHED so hard-- it was Kevin Woo-- he opened the concert on Friday!  (He was in one of the first K-Pop groups called U-Kiss-- I had to have my dd explain to me who he was!!!).  Fun story but the picture of me is hilarious!!!  The other people in picture were great (so I can easily be edited out for their memories) but I was dumbstruck and looked VERY out of place!   Apparently his manager was not thrilled with the 'fans' in the line so asked for workers to do 'pull ins' for his photo time.

NOT even going to post the photo on an open forum-- it was one of the worst photos' I have ever taken.

Saturday concert was AWESOME...  13000 steps

Sunday morning we had to leave early so dd could audition for the Dream Stage.. she did not make it -- I think she had over done it the 2 days before and her knee had had enough-- I'm glad she did not make it as the dancers got a taste of what it is like to be a trainee-- sequestered from 9am until after the concert around 11pm with only ONE 1-hour break to find food (nothing near by and convention lines were LONG)-- water was a premium if you could find it... also no access to any meet and greet or concert.  One of her friends got to take a selfie with Taemin but the others had zero access-- plus workers were pretty rude.  Total stage time in main concert averaged 2 minutes or less.

Lots of groups had stage time at the Sunday convention. It was raining (thankfully just light rain and no real wind) so no outdoor stages so they moved things around a bit inside convention hall.  DD once again abandoned me (well she was hurting and found a couch in lobby to sit on) so I had a few convention hours alone... At one point an older worker (who had taken a photo of me and dd earlier at a prop area he was working) came up to me and said " You really want to stand right here"-- a few minutes later a girl group was escorted by (sort of like a red carpet but less formal and no physical barricades)... I have a video-- DD was like ""MOOOM-- that was my favorite girl group!!!"" I told her that is what she gets for leaving an old lady by herself...  I also watched several other groups take the convention stage and had unrestricted views (plus I think sound was actually better in convention hall!).  DD got to use the Ateez meet and greet-- basically in smaller room with just a few hundred fans for a group talk and then barricaded for a walk by at the end)-- Ateez had a few other private fan club or 'contest winner' fan talk/fan sign events as well as appearances at many of the convention boots-- if you heard screams you just walked in the opposite direction as those Ateez fans would run you down if you tried to get close (so not worth it for me).

The Sunday concert was AMAZING-- I knew almost all of the groups and Stray Kids were an awesome last act (but they did absolutely zero other interactions and did not attend any convention events) .

45000 plus steps in 3 days for someone who averages 5000 on a good day due to health issues.  I did get Dr approval to travel-- but I bet she would have said no had we known what I was really in for!  I did have dd on the edge a bit more than I had hoped-- but I did just fine... I will be back at Dr this week though.

My Ateez  (fandom are called ATINY) shirt was a big hit...

  3. Hi from KCON

Got a hug and a picture with Kevin Woo today at the Viki booth!! (He sang first last night)

DD got an up close place next to Ateez at convention event and they interacted with her— she auditions for the “dream stage” tomorrow morning.

Started watching “My Lovely Liar”  (Viki) on episode 6… waiting for more to be released— fun/cute so far.

  4. OK-- One more t-shirt for KCON next week...  I have a simple shiny heart on front with word STAY inside.  "Stay" is fandom name for Stray Kids and 'Stray Kids everywhere all around the world' is their slogan.

Shirt is really a nice light blue... this is the back of the shirt.

Just found out there will be a room/area dedicated to K-dramas... I may have found my happy place at the convention!

  5. I just finished Dr Romantic 3-- absolutely LOVED it-- would not mind at all if they made a season 4!

Sadly, I've had a few DNF-- but I tend to really look at reviews before I start a new drama.

Not sure what I will start this weekend...

I'm also looking for good ones specifically on Viki-- as I'm traveling this next week and Viki is easy to download with...  IDEAS?

  6. I macremed  my dd a very cute owl wall hanging last year for Christmas...  I also made some cute angel wall hangings for Christmas gifts for extended family.

Every year my girls (all adults now) get 'Mommy Hugs'-- various items I knit or crochet like gloves, hand-warmers, hats, scarves... I really want to learn how to knit socks-- my hands are too riddled with arthritis to use needles so I recently purchased a sock loom as I enjoy loom knitting (double knit loom/rake) as it makes the BEST scarves.  My youngest lives in Colorado-- I just finished making 9 of her dance friends coordinating scarves... currently I'm making her boyfriend a few Mommy Hugs (dark green wool blend and a textured grey) as he is from California (LA) and still has not learned how to dress for WINTER in Colorado!

I made my oldest dd a 'retro' granny square throw blanket--this will be her Mommy Hug for the year.  My other girls already have a few from me...

For little items or for learning new stitches I make dishcloths.. you can get large inexpensive 'cones' of Sugar and Cream brand at most craft stores or Walmart (usually on the bottom shelf in yarn area).  I like using the beige color with confetti blobs--sure they will bleach out-- but I hate just making plain white ones...

I also like using cotton 'scrubby' yarn to make face cloths... I have a cute leaf pattern.  My dds really like these.

A few weeks ago I crochetted my youngest a few summer halter tops-- they turned out so cute and only took an evening each to make.

I dabble in paper crafting-- I made wall hangings and lots of fancy Christmas cards last year using my Cricut.  I've recently used the Cricut to make some decorated (iron-on) t-shirts for me and my grandson...

Today's adventure is tie-dying t-shirts for me and my grandson-- then this weekend I will make iron-on decals with my Cricut to put on them...

  7. One of my dd's has similar issues-- she has PCOS...  The best treatment so far is laser-- dramatic improvement as she has fair skin and DARK hair... she has to have touch ups done about once every 4-6 weeks (takes just a few minutes).   She did a 'plan' and cost was just under $2000 for 2 years (full face and neck).

Expensive-- but so worth it for her self esteem.

Thanks for info. My profoundly gifted 9 yr old finished 3rd grade year being halfway thru 7/6 with a 95 avg. He took stanford 10, scored perfectly and shows ge of post high school. Saxon has been awesome for him. From reading these reviews I now know we will finish 7/6 and then do 8/7  and if no issues after lesson 50 go straight from this book to algebra1. He usually finishes 2 or 2.5 texts a yr and we dont skip lessons. He does 1.5 hrs of math a day at his own pace and most is done orally. Usually no more than 6 problems need to b worked on whiteboard. When I tried to use another program after 2 weeks he begged to go back to Saxon.  We love Saxon

One issue you will run into when moving on to Algebra 1 with a young student is that your son will need to be mature enough to work multi-step problems on paper- not in his head.  This is Algebra.  It is not about the answer it is about the methods used to get the answer.  I would suggest completing all of 8/7 before moving into Algebra 1 as this will help the transition.

If he likes 'head/thinking' work then add in some AOPS.

Y’all. Over here in Okieland, I feel like the only person on the planet that even knows about The Rose!

The Rose has a concert in Dallas on Nov 5 and Austin November 7.... Tickets are on sale!... Let me know if you want to drive down-- I don't want to go by myself-- dd is in Colorado and will be going to the Denver concert...   Anyone else game?

If you like indie-rock and rock ballads then The Rose is for you--  check out their version of ILYSB on youtube-- you really need to watch the music videos, Sammy is special... My grandson loves to dance with me while we listen to their current (more upbeat but one well-placed F bomb) hit  Back to Me...so fun!  Their current album is all in English-- others are all a mix of Korean and English...

    --

Back to K-dramas-- I finished the C-Drama Hidden Love on Netflix... it really was SO SWEET... ...reminded me too much of my high school years (and my crush turned boyfriend who was 5+ years older than me... but he lost me to DH!).

LA K-Con is coming up! I'm so excited for you!

I suspect my daughter will buy an online pass, so hopefully I'll get to see some too. Please keep us updated and please post photos!

My wishlist would be Ateez, Stray Kids, Zerobaseone , Xikers and The Boyz.

The overall line-up is very very strong.

I know you already like Ateez, but have you checked out Xikers? They are a new group from the same label. Check out Rockstar and Do or Die if you haven't already.

Getting VERY excited here-- just 2 more weeks!

We have tickets all 3 nights-- plus will be at convention all 3 days...  Your wish list is pretty much the same as mine!

Made a light blue Ateez Tshirt (looks grey in picture) will wear to one of the convention days  May make a Stray Kids too...  Ateez shirt has 'I heart ATEEZ' in pocket area.  I put a black rose on the left sleeve as a shout out to The Rose (my personal favorite band as I prefer K-Rock to K-Pop).

  11. Got stuck on couch (medical issue) in a room without HULU on TV so I started a C-drama on Netflix-- Hidden Love-- I've heard so much about it and it is so sweet so far (I'm on episode 6 of 25 so we will see-- but it is supposed to be VERY GOOD).

DH is having a medical procedure on Thursday-- so I will be downloading a few episodes of something to watch on my Iphone while I wait...that will be my tough decision of the day!

  12. For that long of a flight I would want to sit next to DH-- I tend to 'lean' when I sleep and would not want to bother a stranger sitting next to me!

While I am sort of an introvert-- I have been on long international flights sitting away from the group-- I was not fond of that (head of group thought I would appreciate leg room over company-- nope!).

with 2-4-2 seating  I would definitely pay to sit with one of us on isle... then we could trade off as needed and not have to crawl over strangers-- or have strangers crawl over us!

We're learning Chinese, so Cdramas are our thing. I'm currently watching Falling Into Your Smile with my 12yo daughter, who likes gaming. It's her first time watching all the way through, and my.... well, I like Xu Kai. I've watched at least 4 of his dramas.

Falling into Your Smile was my first Cdrama- I've watched it twice!

  14. I started Dr Romantic 3 (Hulu)...

FUN FUN FUN!!! and starts right where Dr Romantic 2 left off-- BUT it really upped the medical "GORE" factor-- I'm not squeamish but did look a way in a few scenes.  They also added the lead romantic pair living together-- but so far (episode 4) only a few 'peck' kissing scenes.

The name 'Dr Romantic' kept me from watching the first series-- this is a well done MEDICAL drama with some relationships on the side... 'romance' is more of a play on words-- kind of like 'Romancing the Stone'-- the main Dr is teaching the younger Drs and interns (LOVE LOVE LOVE his attitude!)... so don't let the name make you think this is all about love and relationships...

Dr Romantic 2 is a re-boot with a few members of the original cast-- taking place 3 years later.  Disney's parent company picked up the season 3 it may eventually make it to Netflix--but for now only on Hulu in US (I signed up for free month trial without commercials-- then I will cancel HULU as not enough content I want to see plus I do not like the interface-- too hard to find shows to watch!).

How’s this one?  (King the Land)

This one is cute-- it gets kinda sloooow at times ( and is a bit sappy ) but starts to pick up again at episode 11-- I just finished 14 today-- last 2 episodes are out next weekend!

  16. You can't simply reduce number of stitches... while that may reduce the 'width' of the row it will not reduce the 'height' of the row...

There are TONS of free patterns around for bulky yarn-- try those or have her switch to the yarn the patterns were designed for...

  17. I feel your pain!

My white GSD is HUGE-- about 140 pounds (down from 150 in his younger years).

WHITE HAIR EVERYWHERE... we brush often and sweep/vacuum daily--  we also use a robot vac to assist...

Most of our house has tile floors--so the hair quickly builds up at baseboards.  10 minutes after you sweep it looks like you haven't touched them in years!

  18. We opted to have our last home staged-- our realtor hired a professional 'stager' for this and we split the cost.  Houses were selling fast in our area and realtor thought our house was worth a lot more than we thought...

The style of the stager was NOT EVEN close to ours-- BUT she had an awesome track record so we took a leap of faith.

The photos after the staging were spectacular-- so much better than if we would have used our own things.

Our house sold after 2 viewings and for more $$$ than we thought possible.

In other words we got our staging investment back and I'm a believer!

  19. I have so many but this one is my fav...

On my last trip to Uganda I took a group of teens-- 2 of them (brothers)were online students of mine from CA.  After our work at an orphanage and schools we opted for a short safari.  During one of our safari drives we came across another safari van filled with teens... they were from the SAME homeschool co-op/church in CA as my 2 (brothers) and one of them was a close friend!

  20. I would make upper cabinets go all the way up (get rid of soffit).

Consider moving fridge to between the 'door openings'... then add full pantry next to fridge (fridge deep--so maybe no counter top just bottom to top deep cabinets) -- add upper/lower cabinets where fridge is currently (making corner so block off the door)--counter appliances go there.  This would make it more of a true galley style-- but  sacrificing 10-12 inches of floor space would give you TONS more storage...

Is there any wall in mudroom that can take cabinets?

Is there a way to get a rough sketch of floorplan?
